OMG I HATE CRICKETS! THESE LITTLE THINGS ARE SO ANNOYING! every time I try to get a couple out to feed my T's 10 escape and i have to crawl around to catch them.... not to put them back, but to PUNISH THEM! The ones who escape go straight to my OBT, H. lividum, or L. parahybana (THEY NEVER TURN DOWN FOOD), And I watch them die! It makes me feel a little better when I see my T slowly creeping up, an then leaping at the cricket. Thats when I yell ''HA! TRY TO ESCAPE THAT!''.... I want to switch over to roaches but Rachel sais no... so im just gana get me some mealworms, nice, calm sqirmy mealworms. But if I do ever get roaches, do surinam roaches climb glass or plasic?

get yourself a cricket keeper cage, makes it easier, i just take the tube out and place the cricket in a piece of plastic bag then i just grab them and throw them on my Ts.

My cats often sit and watch when I feed my tarantulas. Any crickets that escape are quickly caught and eaten by the cats.

RE: Crickets

The "chirpers" are the first ones to go to my "T's".

I hate that chirping sound they make, even when the wings are clipped they still try and make some noise and succeed. But they get real quiet when one of my "T's" makes a snack of them. I love this hobby.

Ahhhhhh, those darned crickets...

I've had a phobia of grasshoppers and crickets since my early teens and it is quite a process for me to feed my Ts. At first, I would have my bf feed crix to my Ts because I just couldn't get close to them without having a panic attack. But with my T collection expanding, I had to learn to do it myself as the bf wouldn't continue the feedings for me if I chose to get more.

It took some time for me to get used to them. They still freak me out but I can manage to feed them myself now to the amusement of others watching. I admit that it must be funny to watch me get my crix for my Ts. I keep some in a kritter keeper and when needed: I dawn a pair of latex gloves (god forbid one actually touches my skin!!!), grab a tall clear deli cup with lid. I place the open deli cup into the kritter keeper and with tongs (or my hands if I feel daring that day) I grab a peice of egg carton and shake it into the deli cup. This is followed immediately by placing the lid on the deli cup and removing it from the keeper. Voilà, a few crickets for one of my Ts!

I get laughed at all the time about how I deal with crix. I have 17 Ts, 5 snakes and 2 lizards which I handle, but put a cricket in front of me and I'll lose it!!! Wierd...

i usually grab a peppershaker or small cup to catch them in the container they are in. i tried keeeping them in kritter keepers, but they escape from them...now they are in a modefied big parsley container from the restaurant my hubby works at. and for the escapees...well i do not have a cat to catch them...but i do have a 9 year old daughter that will chase after them for me :D .

well look at it this way. crickets are acctualy closer related to roaches then grasshoppers. :) . Of corse imo they are closer related to the devil himself but ooh well.

Myabe you should get lobster roaches, they dont stink or chirp but they do climb so you would have to apply vaseline at the top 2" of their enclousure so they dont escape.

i have tried several methods of keeping the little stinkers and i at last broke down and purchased the kk with the black pvc tubes. it made it so much easier. as i have tried using toilet paper tubes and the reg. kk & i had many more escapees. the capped black pvc tubes make it so much easier. pull the tube out shake it into a bag. decide who gets who and dump the rest back into the keeper. also if one of your t's decides not to eat you can just empty a tube & stick it into the t's cage and corner the crix . it always runs up the tube. no stress to the spider at all. i have not lost a crix since i bought it a month ago. i even bought another for the smaller crixs for the slings :D :D .

I find the best way to handle crickets is to throw their container into the fridge for 10-15 min. This slows them down completely, and gives you about 5 mins after where they are too cold and slow to escape. :D

Yeah, wrangling crickets is a pain, but I actually like the chirping. I think it adds a cool ambiance to my basement. But if I had them in my sleeping quarters, that would be a different story.

I guess I'm one of the few who love crix. The chirping can be heard in my house year round b/c I raise them. If one gets away there are always more. they make a great pet on their own.:)

i've been jinxed...went to put the last two crickets in with my T so i ushered them up the plastic bag near the mouth, crimping off the escape route back in to the btotom of the bag and also to the exit (holding room if you will :p). opened the T's cage and dropped them in...watched em run around for a minute then closed the cage after once again realizing my T is sleeping, fat, and not interested in any crickets right now (prob be gone in the AM tho). Turned around to find a cricket running around on my coffee table lol...not sure where it came from or how it got out since i didn't open the bag til i had moved away from it.

voodoo i tell you! needless to say, it joined it's companions in the T's cage ;P
