My very first tarantula (rose hair) molted. I got HIM back in April of of this year at the Taylor show in Michigan and it had eaten 3-4 meals since then. It quit eating prolly two months ago so I thought a molt was coming. Yesterday I caught it mid-molt and was geeked. After it was done, I got the molt out and examined it....no horizontal slit running from upper book lungs:wall: . Maybe my novice eye just ain't seein it, I thought. Well, it was out and about cruising its tank and I looked and that's when I saw them. Yep. HE has hooked out to a mature male.

It just makes me kinda sad. I wanted a female that would live a long time for my first tarantula. I was told that it was FEMALE and that's why I got her(him:( ).

Side Note: WOW what a thing to watch. This will be my third molt outta 8 Ts and I actually saw it. They look just spectacular after a molt. All fluffy looking and such vibrant colors.
And after hearing horror stories of bad molts I was so happy to see that he had came out just fine:clap: .

No not you John, the black dude with the glasses. I'm guessing it was just a honest mistake.
But I think I might take you up on that trade:)
He sure is a totally different T now. Color wise and personality wise.

They always tell you it's female. It's almost a guaranteed sell that way.

There were containers marked with MM and MF and I know I clearly grabbed MF container. I had a MM in my hand and he said that it was a male and wouldn't live as long, and he pointed me to a MF, which had a higher price tag ,being that it was a female.

Hopefully It was just human error.

We all make errors and not all of us are after guaranteed sells xhedrx...so that being said in the future try not to group us all together as such:embarrassed:
If I say it's a female I guarantee it for the spiders life, with a lifetime replacement if I am wrong...100% guarantee. I am after getting the hobby out there and not after guaranteed sales....my prices reflect that .
Come and shoot the bull with me at the next show, I am the shorter white 'John' heh heh

I've had this happen twice. Once I believe was an honest mistake. The other is questionable. It is very disappointing. Whats that saying? Buyer beware?

John your offer is commendable.

John you have a table next to the guy who I bought my A. versi from, I think. I thought you 2 were brothers at first.

And I believe that this was an honest mistake on the sellers behalf. He had them labeled MM and MF so he prolly (hopefully) got them mixed up.

I've had this happen to me once. I paid $250 on here for a 7-8" female Theraphosa apophysis, but instead I received a 6.5-7" immature male Theraphosa blondi with a massive hirneia (cyst) on its abdomen. I'm unsure if it was an honest mistake or whether or not the individual attempted to take advantage of me. Unfortunately for him/her (if the second "intent" was true) he mistakened me for a novice. I am quite experianced with the Theraphosa genus and can tell the differences between both species. Luckily I got my money back, but in this hobby, you have to be careful. Some individuals are trying to do some good, but honestly, I believe there are more crooks out there than good hobbyists. Most are out there for the money.
Make sure you always ask for pictures if you order online to verify the sex and species to avoid getting screwed over and to avoid the hassle.
If I had it my way, I would make it a requirement to post pictures in the For Sale ads of what they are trying to sell.

I buy most of my bugs from the more reputable online dealers that can be found here. Others I have purchased from individuals in the for sale section, I make it a point not to buy from anyone that does not have good reveiws. I have not had any problems at all so far.Everyone I have delt with has been great, thats not to say that they don't make mistakes everyone does once in awhile.

I read threads like this one and I realize how lucky I am to have three (yep, count 'em...THREE) breeders in my immediate area. I can see what I am purchasing beforehand! Plus, they are all members of the same group that I am, so I know them on a personal basis too.

I can't imagine ever having to order online.

Lucky you. Just rub it in. J/k
Yea I have never purchased anything online at all.
All my Ts(8) except the rosehair, were purchased as unsexed slings and spiderlings. But im willing to bet that a couple males got snuck in there.

Dave is a good friend and a helluva guy...having a table with him is a laugh a minute sometimes....John is also a friend and if he sold you a guaranteed female I am sure he also would make it right....sometimes when feeding we can get lids mixed up. In any event the offer stands.
