I read somewhere that a bite from an adult Pokey can put you in a coma. Some European website swears it happened before, not sure how many times... All my Pokies have a sleek look to them at 3-4in. Except my P. rufilata, it shows its fluffiness as a Stromatopelma calcatum calceatum. But, the rufilata has a weird blue color on the legs and red hairs, and lightning bolts around that size. Maybe its something new? Sure sounds interesting, can you see a urticating hair patch?

Same could be said about a G.rosea, if you are allergic and get bit in the right spot :D

She very much resembles this one:

http://www.birdspiders.com/archive/3/0083.htm

The ONLY difference is in the opisthoma, it's quite small right now but when I fatten her up I will get a better idea.

;) OF COURSE I WAS JOKING ABOUT GIRLS GETTING GOOD DEALS TOO!!:) I am against sexism or sterotyping or prejudice of any kind. (However, I DO admit to jealousy of Dave's great fortune when he finds the 15" T. blondi at a pet store for $5.99 'cuz the owner think it's a puppy! =D ) If think I probably have obsessive-compulsive sense of humor disorder!

<sarcasm>Well hey, in all fairness, the freaking T was the size of a small puppy, and i was REALLY hesitant to shell out almost $6 for a 15" blondi, too </sarcasm>

;)

i told you Terri, i can shop for you too.. ill just add you to the list!

Years ago (like 13 years ago) I saw a program that had this kid from South America who would go around the rain forest and stick T's in his mouth, fangs first. I don't remember what the point was but at the time I thought it was really gross. That was when I would never even attempt to touch my T.

At 3.5" to 4", the yellow caution bands on the undersides of legs I and II of a Poecilotheria rufilata, would be pretty hard to miss. Even as an ultimate male.
Since the common name at the pet store included "ornamental", I would have to suspect that this may be Heteroscodra maculata. Sometimes called a "togo ornamental", "starburst ornamental", and even "ornamental baboon".
If it is indeed a Poec. of anykind, you stepped in it. Great deal!

I'm SURE she's not an h. maculata... side-by-side they look NOTHING alike!
She's got spatula feet! Isn't that a pokie "trait"?

Alright, alright, I don't mean to insult your intellegence, LOL!
Arboreals tend to have "spatula feet(?)". They have larger than average scopulae. This aids them when defying gravity.
You say there's no yellow caution banding on this sucker? At 4", a P. rufilata's yellow caution banding should be coming in, and be detectable.
Maybe an adult male Heteroscodra or Stromatopelma?
This is the reason why the scientific names should be used, even by these cookie cutter pet chain stores.
I'm anxious to see a pic, or get a definite ID on it.

I should print that quote and take it to him!!!=D I have been bugging and bugging and bugging and, well you know. He WILL NOT get sci names for me. It's not a chain, just one little local pet store. I'm gonna tell him I will never buy a T from him again unless he has the valid specific scientific name!!

There was a man bitten and he was ina coma for 3 days, the thing is he was bitten on the neck by an adult!pokies would rather run and hide than bite

:( Well, WHATEVER it was died this weekend.:( It molted last week, ate a cricket (store-bought) and was webbing and running around acting like a normal T, then I woke up yesterday and found it in a little death curl on the bottom of the enclosure. No warning, no signs of sickness..... ah well. Got 75 new Ts arriving tomorrow... no time to grieve!
