I GOT A POKIE!

O.K., maybe I WAS a bit intimidated, although I can't ever remember being intimidated before! My pet store had two, labeled "Indian Ornamental $9.99". I took that to mean "Poecilotheria of some sort it bites it's fluffy and it's cheap!" (Yes, Dave, girls can find good deals too!;P )

She's 3.5"-4". Fluffy. Brown with a reddish tinge. Can't make out markings, she's too fluffy just yet. No purple, blue or yellow to boast about. Looked on Rick's site and couldn't find one like her... she could be a boy! BUT I LIKE HER!!

She will make a great addition as I am giving a presentation to our local Optimist Club and I was looking for some more "flashy" Ts. And I haven't seen my gorgeous lividium since I stole the vertical tank design from the guy who stole it from Volker!!! But she's happy as a pig in mud!:D

BTW: Do you really have to be optomistic to join the Optomist's Club? What if you're pessimistic just ONCE? If you get hurt, do they put you in the Soroptomist Club?:?

I'm so envious of any of you that can go to a petstore, and see ANY spider for $9.99. I have SCOURED my metropolitan area, and the cheapest I can get is $15 for a tiny A. Avic or Rosehair. I've found one Pokey, and it was 80$. B@stards.

Now that that's all out on the table....congrats on the new pokey!

Nope. Nuh uh! Not gonna happen. I will not...I repeat....will not buy anything other than the Avicularia species when it comes to arboreals.

I'm just hoping that's an inside joke because it seems with you everything has to come up with gender and girl power.
I'm not saying it's bad to voice your opinion about girl power and such but I wish you'd save it for another board.

I'm sure Terri's just playing around -- it's definitely not an inside joke, however... i know i've never said anything about girls not being able to do something like that, regardless of my views in my personal life ... ;)

she's a cool one, though i can't talk for her in regards to her views on sexism...

i think she's just joshing.

:)

I wonder if it isn't something a little more common than a rufilata? Maybe it's an ornata? I suppose they could be considered "fluffy" to some people??

@ JJJ, I was wondering about the featherleg myself, they are definately 'fluffier' !!
@Wysi, I don't have rufilata, but my ornata isn't fluffy at all. Just a different color. I always thought my pokies looked really sleek, unlike the avics, which are the epitome of fluffiness!

(I can't believe the ways I conjugated the word fluffy!)

hey

MizM. I will agree with johnny here. I saw the feather leg(Stromatopelma calceatum which is the most evil T in my opinion. just look at his eyes) labled as P.regalis before. I got exited when i saw it and then I realized it was a feather leg. any ways have a nice day.

Nuh uh. If I'm feeling daring, I'd buy a Venezuelan Suntiger (Psalmopoeus irminia) but there is no way I'd buy anything that is as fast and deadly as an Old World Arboreal. I have enough of a time containing my Avics. Any Ornamentals would be disasterous. The ony way I'd get an Ornamental is by accident of one of my friends or family members were to buy me one as a gift.

Even new world spiders can be "deadly" if you have an allergic reaction to a bite and can't make it to the hospital on time. Personally, I think "deadly" is a little too dramatic when it comes to old world spiders. I'm not sure there ARE any "deadly" tarantulas. There are people who have been bitten by pokeys and other OW spiders and they're still very much alive! ;)

Congrats on the deal!! You will love your Pokie, as long as you respect their speed and venom they're not as difficult as everyone thinks.
