I was trying to figure out the native species of scorps that lives in durango Mex. Where my family comes from i still dont know much about these scorps except they like to kill them and make them into key chains and other stuff. The species is Centruroides suffusus if anyone has any info please respond i cant find much on the web. Can they be kept as pets.

Doesnt look too Centruroides'ish to me either, I'm still thinking its a Vaejovid.

And just because thats the only scorpion you could find that was native to Durango doesnt necessarily mean that is what it is.
There has to be a ton of unidentified species in Mexico.

Well im not quite sure if thats a proper picture, but get this my mom brought back a key holder with a REAL dead Centruroides suffusus ( according to the info i found) thats twice(okay bigger not twice as big) as big as my emp. It is about 8 inches including tail. HUGE. Oh and i found the species name accidentally. Some scientist are collecting them in jar fulls to help create anti-venom and thats the name they gave and i havent seen any other one from where my family is from.

there is probably a magnifying effect on the ones in the keychain. there is no way they reach 8 inches.

Theres a story my dad told me when I was little about how a jail over there in Durango had a sentence that wasnt exactly the death penalty but they would offer you the chance to spend the night in a completly dark cell and if you were alive in the morning they would let you go out free. Many tried and died but one man spent the night in the cell and in the morning the guards found him alive sitting in front of his sombrero. The man caught a footlong scorps, that was what killed the other cellmates, with his hat. The scorp is supposdly in exhibit in a the jail house but i have never seen it. Im going this summer the scorp has been preserved for a long time already and i want to confirm this.

How are you measuring the scorpion thats 8", And possibly could you get a picture of it next to a ruler?

This still sounds completely bogus to me.

This isnt the same scorp but the same species. I'll ask my brother to let me borrow his and take a pic next to a quarter or something. Sorry if you dont believe me but i honestly have no reason to lie. When i realized that this scorp is bigger than my emp i just got exited and wanted to share the info with you guys. Umm i've also noticed that people around there hardly ever find anything above 4 inches. So even if its 5 inches that is still pretty big(altough i know my emp is not bigger than that C.suffucus.) Im just so HAPPY that i finally got some info of the scorps that i have admired since i was 4.
