Hi, new here, I'm Echo! I recently caught a jumping spider whom I named Franki. I've done some research on how to care for these little guys but my financial situation would be considered "low income" and I wanted to know if you could diy some of the things you need for a jumper enclosure. Any advice helps! <3

Either way it should be super easy. Get yourself a 32oz deli cup or a plastic container around the same size, you can honestly go a bit bigger especially for larger Phidippus sp. Make sure it has a lot of vertical space for climbing and then add ventilation holes along the sides being sure they are smaller than the spiders cephalothorax (head). Add a thin layer of substrate for spider comfort. Throw in some dry plant material, sticks are great as a climbing surface. Rocks look nice but make sure there are no gaps for prey to escape, if you do have gaps between rocks just plug them with substrate or a twig. Boom! You are ready to add your spider. Feed every 5-7 days as a general guideline but really, if it looks skinny, drop a small cricket or equally small prey into the enclosure Most pet stores should sell pinheads and 1-2 week old crickets. If they look fat, hold off on feeding for a day or two.

nope, but i found them in my bathroom
I share my bathroom with Daddy Long legs.
The Cellar is best area by far...
I don't bother them, they don't bother me. / Live and let live.
They have a job to do and they do it well.
Free range no need to take prisoners.

How big are the mealworms compared to the spider? If they feel like the prey is too big they won't go for it. You might want to prekill the mealworm. Cutting off it's head is the easiest way to do that. Younger jumpers will scavenge.
When did you get them? It can take some time for them to settle in and eat.
They also won't eat if they're dehydrated so make sure they have access to water. The easiest way is to spritz some water drops on the side of the enclosure.
Good luck!

In your original Thread on the this subject...'I caught a jumping spider'
Tbone suggest "Pinhead" crickets.
No need for multiple Threads. Keep it together, Otherwise peeps get confused .

Worms are iffy for jumpers. They like prey that moves around a lot, which beetle larvae are bad at.

Jumpers do enjoy moving food. Some might eat mealworms depending on their age and hunger. But pinhead crickets are a very good idea if you can get some.

i read that this is a wildcaught jumper. It might really prefer something else then mealworms. I read what you said… if its the only spider you have, you might consider getting it some wild food since thats what it was already eating.

we usualy never recommend wild feeders. But in your case that might prove to be the best way to go.

alright, thank you

Does anyone know why my jumping spider is burrowing or sitting on the top corner of their enclosure? is it possible they're molting?
this is the spider btw

in my limited experience keeping jumping spiders, they spend the vast majority of their time in a silken retreat at the top of the enclosure
