How to set up Amac box for terrestrial

When setting up an Amac box -- or any similar box with a raised (vs flush) lid -- for a terrestrial sling/juvenile, typically the larger half of the box is used for the bottom, and is filled pretty full with sub, and the smaller half is used for the lid. How much space should be left above the sub but below the rim of the base? It seems that a person would want enough space so that there isn't any worry of the T exiting when the lid is removed for feeding (I know, attention needs to be paid, but we novices can't predict T behavior well yet), but not so much that the roof of the assembled enclosure is so high that there is a fall risk. The tops are ~1.5", which is officially already a fall risk height for a smaller sling.

Is there a rule of thumb here?

Slings are at much lower risk. 1.5" isn't a fall risk. You could have 3 or 4" with a sling if you had to for whatever reason. No problem.

Makes sense, given 32fps/ps, but it seems the little details are important with spiders. Thanks. :)

Yes. Get the flat lid. :p Only kidding. While I do prefer the flat lids better, I did start with the other because I bought a set and thats what it came with. I've been converted to the deli cup though so now mine are just taking up storage space.

No, depends on species

My issue with the tall lids is that they WILL climb up and sometimes that makes it hard to do maintenance or feed them.
Web heavy species might web and home up there. Its not necessarily dangerous, It's just kind of a hassle imo.

Flat top amacs are where it's at tho.

They're great for Latrodectus sp. as long as you don't put anything in there that's taller than the lower section...
