Communals are not worth the risk in my opinion. You're better off keeping them separated.

Yeah probably not a great idea. Unless you're ok with the high chance of ending up with 1 fat P metallica sling.

I don't understand the reason for keeping them communally.
Is this an experiment?
Seems to me that they would prefer their own territory.

Don’t do a communal P Metallica setup. They’ll end up eating each other AND are very fast with potent venom

That just seems like more stress than a keeper needs. Separating pokies, or stressed pokies bolting, if there's a territorial issue, one bolts, spooks another, they bolt. You have a pokie party at that point.

How many Poeciletheria are you keeping now?

For 5, I'd say about a 7,000 gallon might be a good starting place :) lots of hiding tree holes scattered far and wide.

They aren’t communal. You’ll end up with one fat T. But if you don’t care if one is killed go for it

Putting animals in the same set up DOES NOT make it communal at all. This idea of communal that’s been around on the internet, not from scientific literature is complete CRAP.

They are not really a communal species and one of the only reasons they tolerate being in close proximity in the wild is due to their now, quite limited range. In captivity, the same restrictions do not apply. It is smarter to just house each one separately.

OP should really focus on what is in bold, and not just things such as this...

please don't look for confirmation bias either...you can find that literally everywhere.

I know a biologist who studied them in the wild. He only observed them very high up in a hole in a tree. Never communal

That one Tom guy with the video makes it look WAYYY too easy -& intriguing. I'd say go for it once you're on his level, but not before, regardless of your penchant for mayhem.

Iterations of these occur throughout the life cycle, yes? Middle school, college, through hobby-holding adulthood...

I know the video you're talking about. I agree. I don't understand communals. If anything they take away from the presentation. There's nothing better than a stand alone tarantula in a beautiful enclosure. When you have so many in one space, it's like sensory overload. Too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.

but, to your point (that I bolded), hopefully more folks will actually do that, especially when it comes to a more in depth question (or in their case statement) other than general husbandry.

Look, I'm never going to have a collection of hundreds of these spiders that most seem to have here (honestly would be surprised if I ever get above 20), but research utilizing appropriate resources is really important....long story longer, bottom line, I'm glad you mentioned that specifically.

Everyone says that and then you add another sling. But shipping is so expensive that you pick up another to make it worth your while. But, you need to qualify for the freebie so maybe you add another and so on. I'll talk to you a year from now 😆

hey, at this point, I've got a nice even dozen....baker's dozen next? but then that? go by football scoring? never ends!

only have one duplicate, P. murinas

in all honesty though, after the first half dozen, definitely made me consider species I really wanted a little more....I mean, Steve, the T. albopilosus, the pet rock, isn't going anywhere (literally), but Steve is still pretty cool....

All right, back to our regularly scheduled programming....
