I'm planning to buy an A.Geniculata sling but i'm a little worried that i might get scammed cause i can't really identify the difference of both slings since they look so similar. the geniculata costs 15$ while the chromatus costs 8$. Anyone have any info or pictures?

Chromatus have a white carapace and A. genic have a dark carapace, but depending on how big the slings are you might not be able to tell the difference yet.

Your being very paranoid, you really think they are going to scam you to save seven dollars on a cheaper sling? Buy from a reputable source and you will most certainly get what you paid for.

These can be differentiated at around the 2-3'' mark...smaller slings will look almost identical.

This. If you're buying from a reputable person, you are worrying for no reason. It isn't like we are talking about a 200$ sling versus a 12$ sling or something.

You could probably tell even around the 1.5" mark when their leg patterns become more distinct.

Here's both species, OP. You can see the markings on tibia(?) are different, which becomes pretty obvious early on.

Pretty much the vast majority of NW terrestrial slings look practically identical until they start to get their adult colouration

Buy from a reputable seller and you won't have any issues, I've been scammed once in over 2 years and 60+ tarantulas and that one occasion was when a guy sold me a male tarantula as a "confirmed female".

Well money is still money and i can buy a bunch of things with 15$ from where i live. Yes, i should buy from a reputable dealer but we don't really have any big reputable dealers around here it's mostly keepers that sell their collection off.

That is what the Classifieds on here is for... You can find pretty much any T you want, and from a reputable source.

I understand that "money is money"... I am saying that it is highly unlikely somwone is going to purposefully scam you with these two inexpensive species.

Well, OP is in the Philippines, so that does complicate matters quite a bit. Just from the outside looking in, the hobby seems to be a mess over there. Seems like I'm constantly seeing reports of cross-breeding and wildly mislabeled spiders. So there is a very real possibility he doesn't have what he thinks he has.

In the US, Canada and Europe that is true, but since the OP is in the Philippines it’s a bit more tricky.

Edit: EulersK beat me to it..darn you

I really hope you do get the species you're purchasing, and if you are still dubious of the Ts ID rest assured that you can post an image of it here and probably get a positive ID if it's 1.5" or larger. Luckily both species are fast growers, so if it's too small to tell upon arrival you shouldn't have to wait long before it's large enough to correctly identify. :)

Ahh, I was not aware of the OP's location... forgive my assumption that they were also in the US - I should know better!

That wouldnt be a ripoff...boehmei is actually more valuable and slightly less common....and every bit as stunning to look at.....get a bohmei and you could trade it for a bunch of little genics.

Its actually the opposite here in PH, boehmei is cheaper than genics. Might be because most Brachypelma species came first to the hobby before genics.

really....considering a genic sac can exceed 1000k little ones, or more than twice what the Brachy could produce....and genic is easier to breed and pairings lead to resulting sacs about 3 times faster....thats bound to change at some point in the near future.
