Small meal worm with a crunched head and skip the cutting. The big box stores even have extra small meal worms even though any with a smashed head will work.

Small meal worm with a crunched head. I haven't fed crickets in three years to any of my tarantulas. The big box stores even have extra small meal worms even though any with a smashed head will work. Keep in the fridge and don't have chirping or a pee smell.
Personally I wouldn't feed spiders exclusively mealworms though i see the advantages. They are pretty much just fat and are missing nutrients tarantulas need mainly fiber. Ofcourse to each their own and I doubt anything would happen to the T.

i always used tiny crickets for slings. since a lot of people here say cut mealworms are good/best for slings, i bought some. never fed mws before. when i cut them, even with the sharpest knife i possess, i squeeze out the guts, what remains is an nearly empty "pipe".. how is this supposed to be done? .. odd question i know.. are the guts more consistent when cold (out of the fridge)?

They're a great feeder, especially for slings, but they're the one thing that creep me out for some reason. It really like to run out of them, but they're annoyingly active breeders... 😤

I always use a razor blade.. Never came to the thought that you could use a knife. I wonder, do you guys still use these knives for your own food? I think the mere thought of where it has been would be too much for me.

I'm guessing it's the same for the others who answered "knives" but the knives I use aren't for cutting food, a hobby knife (X-ACTO knife across the pond) is basically a scalpel, and a Stanley Knife is a retractable utility knife.

Yes I used a kitchen knife until I posted this thread :) why not? You could just eat meal worms. Eating insects is the future :)

Edit: I washed the knife in the dishwasher afterwards..
