How much room will a 3-5"H. gigas need to burrow

So Im getting a 3" H.gigas some time in the next week. I was thinking of putting a swimming pool in the 10G tank I got him I know that is very much on the big side for a tank. How much room will a 3-5"H. gigas need to burrow. I was thinking of just putting a 2.5G tank in the 10G tank and giving him 9 or 10" deep bedding.

I think that would work pretty good but I would'nt give him any less than that.

I would like it to last him tell he hits 5-6". I also plan on putting a filter in the water and 2 gold fish. I am trying to copy a few projects Ive seen on the boards and see if I can get them to work.

I've been reading what you are refering to and it looks like a fun experiment. If you are unsure that that amount of substrate would not be enough, you could set the small water tank on something inside the bigger tank to allow you to deepen the substrate. Keep us posted. It's very interesting.:clap:
