How long can a tarantula survive in transit?

What's the longest time a tarantula you sent or received was in transit and still survived?

I'm looking for experiences on everything from slings to juveniles to adults.

My first two Ts are on their way from Poland to Finland (bought from Spidersworld.eu) and it's going to be at least a full week before they arrive and I'm a bit nervous. I know I'm probably overreacting but they're my first and I want them to be alive and well.

I appreciate any insight you guys have to offer.

Tarantulas have a very slow metabolism. Slings will need a moist environment, but in general they can survive extended periods without food and water.

If packaged correctly, and not exposed to significant temperature swings...7 days in a shipping package should be fine.

Bummer though that you are not able to get it over-knighted...Spell check added the "k"...I left it, cuz I like it.

Thanks for the insight! I've heard they pack their spiders very well so that's a bit of a comfort.

I'm hoping in the future after this Corona thing will cool down the shipping will be faster.

Lol I like the k too.

I've ordered tarantulas from Poland, Germany and UK and received the packages after 5-7 days. I've had one DOA (from UK), but the tarantula was in heavy pre-molt (its abdomen was black), so that might have contributed to its death. I haven't had any other problems.

Spidersworld packs their Ts well, I've ordered twice from them. What species are you getting?

Okay thanks that makes me feel better. Did you get a replacement for the DOA and was it from the spider shop UK? I almost ordered from them but spidersworld.eu had the Ts I was looking for.

I'm getting a 6cm A. geniculata and a 3cm Pamphoboetus sp machala.

It was from BugzUK. They don't offer LAG for international orders so I didn't ask for a refund/replacement.

No need to worry. Spidersworld.eu packs very well. I have ordered well over 100 spiders from them. The longest one package was in transit is 13 days, due to a miss by the swedish postal service. All the spiders was ok when arrived.
The spiders are usually very thirsty, so it's a good advice to make sure they have access to water when you rehouse them from the shipping vials. Good luck with your new spiders.

Spidersworld.eu offer a van service to the uk. Only costs a little more. They're packed Thursday and are delivered over the weekend. I'd have thought they'd do the same for other countries too.

It's apparently only available for deliveries to the UK. At least during the current situation.

Must be down to the amount of orders from the UK then.

Your little rascals will be with you eating their first crickets before you know it.

I just wanted to update that both Ts arrived today as UPS changed the delivery date from Monday to today and both look fine and healthy in their new enclosures. The A. geniculata even ate her first meal already.

UPS has been painfully slow for me for some reason. They always mess up something and it has taken almost a week sometimes longer for them to deliver the order. It's fine until the package arrives in Finland. After that it always takes several days.

Longest I've gotten was 4 days but I've heard of 7 day shipments.
