I'd have to have actually read the journal reports on the medical cases before I do more than conjecture based on my own experience. It's always possible, but in my case the hair(s) either were expelled or absorbed without medical intervention. It's really a question of if our bodies can break down the hairs or not.

What I do before a substrate change for example is to spray water on the substrate surface so that hopefully the hairs get bound to it before I start messing arround.

The way of spider hair urticating worse over time makes sense, whereas bee or snake stings/bites work oppositely (in effect). Your immune system isn't really doing anything differently -- it's just trying to attack the irritant. The difference lies in that urtie hairs aren't just injecting a poison to be carried away more efficiently. Rather, they're barbs and shards embedded in the skin, which can't be readily carried away by cells in the blood. So in better identifying this kind of irritant, the body has no choice but to better reject it from the tissue -- thus worse irritation and active intent by the body to expel. In my higher temp room, I often take my shirt off and have a sweaty stomach. All I have to do is get even a B. boehmi adult to kick for but a moment from 2" away and I'll break out like I've got wood mites of chiggers all over my belly. Caution is my only solution.

Also if you get haired hold your breath (Well you can exhale) until you back far enough away. Getting urticating hair in your nasal cavity isn’t all that fun either.

Everyone's different. I've gotten irritated on my wrists, my body, and coughed for days like hairs were in my lungs. They've never touched my sinuses (which are highly allergic to dust mites and seasonal blooms). But T's can floor my wife via nasal.

It's feet but, as mentioned, it's a function of density being negatively correlated with distance from spider butt. I just wear normal latex gloves and use 8" tongs for manipulating stuff. I'll often get a few hairs that manage to land on my upper arms or, worse, the back of my neck, but that's quite tolerable in spite of how sensitive I am to urticating hairs (if I skip the gloves I'll have very swollen fingers for days).

If I had a time machine, I'd make sure I'd been wearing gloves for the past two decades so I wouldn't be so sensitive now.

It doesn’t matter, they are messed up, laser guided, heat seaking, smart bombs. They don’t come in ones or twos, it’s the biological equivalent of carpet bombing or napalm in Vietnam. It’s an AoE that offers no save. It’s a ranged touch attach that ignores defection bonus.

How far? Try FIFTY FEET. A woman in the town where I lived had hyper sensitivities producing urticaria and cascading allergenic shock (complicated anaphylaxis). The specialist determined the allergen causes which centered on animal fur, specifically cats. No closer than 50 feet from cats was his recommendation. Better safe than another trip in the ambulance and possibly a week on a respirator.
