So the opportunity has come up pick up a palm sized maybe around 3in G. pulchra and up to this point I’ve never had a Grammostola spp their longevity dissuaded me, lol I know, and I wasn’t looking for one, but the deal is pretty much too great to maybe pass up, s steal status. So it looks like I may likely pick it up.

so my question is how do you like your G. pulchra? Where does it come in on your rank of species you own? Under or Over rated? I just wanna hear what you think about your G. pulchra’s!
Thanks,

Connor

It's a weird but a cute little fella. Definetly full of personality and the best appetite in my collection (attacks and chases everything that moves - even chases my camera shutter). I think it lives up to it's rating. Though i had to wait until that beautiful black started to show, that was a boring part. But i assume 3 inchers are already nicely black so only fun parts remain!

If I'm going to fair, I'd call the G. pulchra the dark version of an A. chalcodes. There is a lot similar in-between the two if I had to compare them in my collection. Slow growing, decent eaters, possible long fasts of no food, and construction/dirt artists. They're great all around and are decent to have. My little G. pulchra is still stuck at 3'' and he's taking his time to grow like the A. chalcodes. I do think the hype is a bit over the top in a way, but I do think they are pleasant to have nonetheless.

I like mine. Had it over a year.
It's still young but mine's always topside and very docile. I don't think their reputation is overblown and i wouldn't say they're overrated based on what I've seen.
If it's that good of a deal, pull the trigger.

For me, pulchras are the classic among tarantulas! They are definitely great animals, not psalmos, but still entertaining and beautiful. No proper collection without G. pulchra!

But you shouldn't care what other people like, what matters is whether you want one or not!

No, they are expensive because they grow like a stone and adult spiders are rare. You also need to have a little bit of knowledge to breed them.

One of my first two Ts was a pulcra. its molted twice in a year (it'tle be a year on the 29th) Absolute bulldozer and is out on display most of the time. I got it at .75" and where at like 2" now (He's a he). one of my favorite Ts and has a monstres appetite. Can't beat the deep dark blacks, mine is already fully black. If you have the time and pacence for this T I recommend it. As much as I like them I don't usually recamend them to people who are just starting out. As they can remain buried for rediculusly long periods.

I never had one so ıdk if theye are so much more slower than others but there are a lot of slow growing cheap sp like g.pulchrapes ( again idk maybe pulcra is much more slow) its just seems like its mostl expensive and rare bc its color and ı think someone needs knowledge for breeding and sp

Mine was the first T I bought that had to be shipped to me. He was 1" when I got him and is now 2.5", molt sexed male. He's pretty cool and fairly chill, but he's not my favorite T by a long shot.

My friend has a big adult female and absolutely loves hers. She even kept it after she got rid of alsmost all of her other NW species due to allergic reactions to the hairs. She was photographed professionally with it, even.

I'm sure if I had a big adult female, I'd love it, too, but I don't and my guy isn't as interesting to me for some reason. I don't regret getting him, but I won't be heartbroken when he matures and I send him away for breeding.

Look at the pictures. It felt like 3 months ago there was a pulchra that was compared to a gorilla. I think so too, despite their calm demeanor, they look beefy and dangerous 🤣

I'm not a terrestrial keeper, and not really a big NW keeper either. When I made a rather large purchase, I chose a G. pulchra/quirogai as a freebie to gift to the person who watches my collection when I'm out of town. I had it for about a day, but I could definently see the allure they have. It was pretty bold, ate an hour after unpacking, and was heavily moving earth that night. It's still the only tarantula that I've inadvertently handled (bolted onto my hand during unpacking, but slow strolled after that. That "slow" NW really put me in my place lol). When I expand into NW terrestrials, I'll probably start with a G. pulchra/quirogai.

Medium rare with a ton of pepper. :drooling:

Nah, I'd never harm him, he would be delighted to rip my face off on the other hand, when he's moody, but in general a pretty relaxed T, visible almost every time.

He also gained a pretty decent size in a relatively short period of time, molted 8 times within 2 years, reaching 5.5" and an awesome eater too, so yeah, my most beloved T I'd say.

@Smotzer so many other genus’s and species of those genus’s that I would love to have.
I don’t want so many that I get overwhelmed.
This is fun for me,not a daily chore,if you get my meaning.
