It sounds awful but starve her until she eats. Offer her nothing but water.. dogs aren't stupid, they won't starve to death. Alternatively we get taught at uni to tell owners to mix in wet food with the dry, and slowly phase the wet food out until there is nothing but dry.

As far as a vet appointment goes, of course you can get one yourself. There is no age limit.

I also have doxies and they are incredibly picky. When I first switch to a premium food, snoopy would go a day or 2 without eating then eat just enough to stay alive. I was always switching his food trying to find something he likes and ended up making it worse. I finally picked a food I know was healthy and thats what he got or he went hungry, he only went hungry a few times before he figured it out.
Getting your girls weight down is really important, being over weight is incredibly hard on a doxies spine. If she won't play, then start taking her on short walks everyday and no food except for her kibble and carrots for treats. I'd make her work for the carrots too, toss them a few feet from her so she has to chase after them.

It kills me that people let their dogs get like this, and then continue to allow them to gain weight by adding things like steak juice. :wall:

-Mighty Dog and Kibbles and Bits are both GARBAGE. Throw that crap out. Any of the brands that Leila mentioned are great.

-Canned food is terrible on dog teeth, especially the crummy brands. Their mouth will eventually have horrible decay.

-As has been stated, the dog will not starve herself. Leave her portion of food down, freshen it up once a day, and she will eventually eat. Offer her NOTHING else. No canned food, no human food.

-Take her for regular short walks.

-Once you have chosen an appropriate dry food, STICK TO IT. Do not change to new foods every time you go shopping. Dogs do not need variety in their diet. A good quality dog chow is balanced.

I love to do that, haha. It's funny because she hops up and down and barks and when i throw it, she has it before she can open her mouth :D . Eggs and carrots are her favorite treats. Although she only gets eggs every couple of months if at all.

Blue Buffalo, Nature's Recipe, By Nature, and Nutro Ultra are some good ones that I find readily in my area. Blue Buffalo is always one of the top three foods on these comparison websites but it can get expensive which is why I suggest Nature's Recipe for you.
well, i went and bought new food for her today but i couldn't find any nature's recipe. I did however find something called "The good life recipe" and i thought it could just be a rip off brand. Does anyone know if this food is okay or not? it gives nutrition facts but i don't know what is recommended for her so i am not sure if it is a good, healthy food.

For quality food, you will have to go to a pet store like petco or a feed store, they aren't carried in a regular grocery store.
Good life recipe is a rip of brand, its designed to look like quality but it still has fillers, preservatives and low quality protein.
whatever you get, don't go with Canidae, the formula has changed and its been making dogs sick over the last few months.
Here is a great doxie forum, people there can help you pick a good food and give exercise help.
