How do I add more substrate without crushing my millipedes?

I need to add more substrate as I have the bare minimum right now.

However, I am scared to accidentally crush my millipedes.

Two like to stop on top of the substrate and one has burrowed.

I think it would be hard to crush them but I could be wrong.

Remove. Add soil. Put back in. If they are that big, should be easy enough to find them.

Removing them is the most straightforward when changing any animals substrate
