How can you tell?

i was wondering, i have a 3" Avicularia avicularia, and can i tell if it is a male or female? i know how to tell if its a male, but how do you tell if its a female? thanks,

Typically with avic it is easy to tell without a molt if you know what to look for, females are more bolky and there Epigastric Furrow (I think that is the spelling) is usually very swollen or enlarged, so its not flat. But if you dont know how to look for those things then you just might need to get a molt.

James, at that size you should be able to sex it reliably with a moult. Look in the links section of this site to find some pages which display the sort of anatomical features you're looking for.

BTW, you can't tell an immature male the way you're thinking, only a mature male has hooks so most people rely on using moults to figure out gender before breeding becomes an issue.
