You're gonna need to be more specific than that. What species are we talking about? Different species will reach different maximum sizes, and different species have different specific enclosure needs (arboreal, fossorial, etc.). If we're just saying run-of-the-mill terrestrial species that gets to (for the sake of this response), 5" across total; it would be wise to have AT LEAST three times (15" across in this case) of space for the T to comfortably move around. I've seen enclosures just on the internet where the T's barely have enough room to even turn around, and they wonder why they are defensive.

TLDR please provide more information :)

It's an A. Hentzi, my current enclosure is 40cm across but I've found its far too big

I only have two, a G. rosea and an A. hentzi but they're both in 12x12x12" Exo Terras.

As long as there is space for a hide, a water bowl and remaining space for the t to fully stretch post molt its big enough. Just dont clutter the space with decor. That 3x the DLS in lenght rule of thumb is a load of rubbish. I would say a 10 x 12 inch or similar sizes enclosure will be more than enough to maintain it for the rest of its live

My problem is that the dubia roaches run away and hide, so a smaller enclosure would allow it to catch them quicker. This is my current level of decor, too much? 20230913_155252.jpg

I'm pretty sure the enclosure is 40cm by 20cm currently

Honestly that’s why

I don’t like Dubia’s for this reason. Regular crickets usually will suffice as they move around a lot and don’t burrow. You can get them relatively cheap I can get around 8 from my local pet store for still under $1.

the problem is that they smell and make lots of noise

You can downsize. As it is, its fine as well as the decor. Id just add more substrate it looks a bit shallow.
This is a side view

Dubias can still hide and dig even in smaller enclosures. T do find them eventually. Id suggest breaking the front legs. Its cruel but effective
Does seem cruel...just crush the head, put it out of its misery and let its nerves twitch around. humane, easier, avoids dubia burrowing etc etc.
