yea, well thats the standard recommendation

you can deviate from it as long as you achieve the real goal


for example:
most people buy already dehydrated feeders from some pet-store-chain and feed them right off, a spider that gets those will require water to drink occasionally

if the feeders themselves are hydrated and gutloaded the spider will need much less water to drink if any at all

thats just one example, but you can see why the standard recommendation is to have a water dish, much less explaining to do and it doesn't hurt even with properly hydrated feeders

if the dish becomes a problem though, like with very heavy webbers, then spraying a few droplets to drink from becomes the better option

spraying too much is however still dangerous to spiders like C. cyaneopubescense so the standard recommendation remains: "add a water dish"

For my S. calceatum, I attached a water dish to a branch, to get it up off the substrate. I'll do something similar for my P. ornata, once she matures. I'll suction cup the water dish to the glass. In two years, I believe I once caught the S. calceatum drinking. Other than that, I have yet to see a T drink. Not that I spend that much time observing them.

You forgot to add an emotional support water dish (for pushing around) AND decoy water dish (this one is for dirt) in addition to the actual water dish (for killing feeders that would otherwise not find open bodies of water in their habitat, so of course they would be drawn to them in captivity)...

My Venezuelan Green Bottle Blue T drank from its dish TWICE the other day, AND ate two gutloaded live crickets. It was actually really cute to see it drink! Everybody's different in arachno world too. Photo proof!

Right, haha I wasn't complaining that it wasn't good advice but just pointing out how what actually happens can be quite different. That's true though, since they get most of their water from the feeders after all

I just top off as I lose it to humidity. Quick and easy and tops stay on.
But if a water cup is dirty or has bedding in it or a dead cricket I change and was the cup real good. I just recently removed and cleaned all 17 cups and refilled.

You will know when it's time to clean as their gross slimy dirty. But as long as cup is clean and clear just top it off
