H swammerdami actually looks different from Emps. Now they are a great species for sure but not at $750 lol. I doubt it will be sold anytime soon lol.

David, For many in the USA Tityus are perhaps the Holy Grail but in Europe they are quite common. I expect them to be fairly common here in the US in a few years since there are a few of us that have them and are planning to breed them. Personnally my "Holy Grail" of scorps are any of the Androctonus/Parabuthus spp that I dont have with Androctonus hoggarensis being my first choice.

Wow Brian, I just looked up a picture of A. hoggarensis and I must say it is absolutely stunning! Any idea why it isn't anywhere near as common as the other species of the genus in the trade? The website where I found information on it says it lives at altitudes greater than 3000 meters so I guess that could be the reason. I wish I could find one.

plus, i reckon he is trying to establish the US market, is what i meant for ppl to infer
ya know...I agree with that. Sure, it's an absurd price for anyone to pay, though im sure there are people who would.

When I was in the Leopard Gecko breeding hobby..I used to see the price of the animals go down, farther and farther, until eventually I had a hard time selling anything. When prices are kept high, a market flourishes. Sure this person MAY not sell as many...but it also doesnt decrease the "value" of the animal, and they dont become "disposable pets" quite so easily. They are highly valued by the person who purchased them, and treasured.

Having said that, I dont think it should be $750...at most $400...since you can purchase a P. metallica for less than that, but remember not so long ago what the price was? :D

P. villosus is one awesome scorp. Largest buthid in the world, great coloration and hairy as a sasquatch!

I imagine the member who posted that is not American and is referring to a currency equivalent.

Hey, there are countries in this world where people don't earn any money at all and are living in pure poverty. Many people don't even have access to clean water, medical supplies or food. They are just unlikely to have internet access to let you know about it!

350USD a month is not so good if you live in the USA, I'd imagine. Unless you still live with your folks or are a student (working part-time) and have roomates or a dorm room or whatever. In another country it might be fine due to currency equivalent. As in, USD is strong compared to many currencies in other countries.

This all said, $750 is way too much for one scorpion and if you earn 350USD per month -or the equivalent- then I wouldn't advise purchasing this scorp :D.

Here's another of those "how-dare-someone-charge-that-much-for-a-so&so, and-I-can-go-out-and-find-one-for-only-25-bucks" thread. In the 3 years of being in the hobby, i've never seen a swammerdami for sale. Personally I would love one just for the fact that it's the largest known scorp in the world. I can't afford that price, and if it bothers you, don't buy the g-d thing, and stop complaining.

Listen, 750$ is too much for any scorpion to my opinion, it's an insult to people who work...you could pay a plane ticked and go collect it yourself for that money.
Now, don't go telling me that there are poor countries, I come from one, and I know how it is to be living in poverty. Obviously, people who do not work don't earn money too! There are many unemployed people in the USA too... But thinking that there are places where you earn 20$ a month is an insult to me. I don't know any country where they earn that equivalent of money of any currency, and especially not in Lithuania where this guy is from...

I think we all have the right to complain here without you telling us not to do that~!

$750.00 for a scorpion...hmm

I guess if you want it and you got it, why not?! I, myself, would never pay that much for a single scorpion (or a pair for that matter!) but my hat's off to those that have the spare scratch to spend and would.

As for a personal holy grail scorp - would have to be P. villosus!

Best to all,
Luc

Jeez, this is getting crazy. Didn't we just cover the $650 Tarantula from <edit>?

If <edit> wants to sell the ONLY H.swammerdami I have ever seen available for sale, then more power to him. If he sells it, great. If not, oh well. I know that I am not going to buy it, but that should not stop anyone from doing it themselves.

<edit> gets excited about inverts. I have not met him face to face, but I know folks who have... and he is, by all accounts, a true invert geek. I mean that in the nicest possible way, too. I like that he gets all excited over Pterinochilus species that may or may not turn out to be just another color form of chordatus...

And

He has a business to run. I agree with the previous poster who considers that it is possible that he is helping jump start a market for scorplings available for a lesser amount... how many of you see gas at $2.79 a gallon and think "Wow, that's cheap"???? No it's not. It's just cheaper than $3 a gallon. Congratulations... you've been conditioned!

<edit>, If you can move that big bug for that kind of cake---good luck!

Martin

Why do all my posts end up sounding like I am so pi55ed off? :?
