Heteropoda javana care information

Hey everyone. A part of a recent order I just received two very young Heteropoda javana spiderlings. Information doesn't seem to be too prevalent for them online. I looked up the regions from which they come, so have a basic idea of climate that they originate from but, I was wondering if you have any tips as to what they prefer climate and decor wise also as to their size and lifespan. They are both currently about 1/4" legspan. I assumed they'd be comparable to other species of Heteropoda from the same area but, just wanted to be sure.

Thanks for any help :)

Keep them somewhat moist and arboreal. Feed them as much as possible until they get to around an inch. You want them to grow out of the sensitive stage in my experience.

Don’t worry about decor. You can keep them in small vials with some coco fiber. They will climb the edges and molt from the lid.

Awesome, thank you for the information! They are pretty cool little guys, the more I look at them. I understand what you mean by wanting to get them bigger as fast as possible, they seem like they'd be very susceptible to humidity levels and damage.

I keep all my huntsman slings in dram vials with moist coco fiber to keep humidity up. Couple of pinholes in the lid, nothing fancy. I put a little sprig of shagnum moss for decor (bent in a U shape so the sides of the vial hold it up). Some species will hang out on it, others were always on the sides of the vial. Feed often to get out of the sensitive stage like nyan said. I fed 2-3x a week and they only turned down food when they were going to molt. Good luck and keep that catch cup ready ;)

You definitely don't lie about that haha. They were both unexpected freebies that came with an order, so I wasn't sure what to expect with them behavior wise. Luckily I didn't have any close calls while putting them into their new enclosures, as I went all out with catch cups a clutter free area and transferring them inside a larger container if they did bolt but, holy crap they are fast for something that small haha Once in there new containers they were just ripping in circles for the first while haha. Both did take the smallest pinheads I had though which was good to see that soon, I'll just have to be extra mindful while opening h e lids for feedings.

I don't even want to guess how they packed two of them into the container for shipping haha

You could do fruit flies. Heteropoda slings will take prey almost as big as their body, in my experience.

TarCan freebies? Those suckers will grow on you. I love mine. ;)

What I do is offer live springtails, baby isopods, and pre-killed waxworm halves.

Yeah. The guy from bc has not gotten back to me on what the cost will be for shipping... Anyway. Yeah tarantula Canada.
I got three isopods that are in there about roughly under the leg size of this little fella. I was told they didn't scavenge u.u I don't have any fruit flies or spring tales I don't think. I mean I found some white things swimming In a water dish from a drowned fruit fly that came in from our compost/plants. Really the only thing I got is isopods or meal worms. I might have to dig up some smaller ones. I got them in the exo Terra med breeder box xD then I can add them to any cage I need. It has only been four days since I got it.

I got it free with a P. Irminia btw.

My heteropoda javana scavenge just fine. They're always big and fat. They seem to prefer scavenging off the ground. I make sure to drop their food up in their plants

This is one of mine after a week on pre-killed. He's blurry, but plump.

And the other sling. The only issue is how hard it is to clean stuff in their hunting grounds without making them bolt. You can see where I dropped the new waxworm and the last carcass I wasn't able to get.

I will do that tomorrow. Hopefully the little things stops running up my thumb. And jumping off. XD I would lose it in my room if not for the fact that it has a safety line I can catch it on like normal house spiders.

Good luck! They're fun little guys.

I find that mine have calmed down a little. Had to rehouse one temporarily for cleaning, and it just stayed on its leaf.

Try and find something with leaves like mine? They seem to love sitting on them.

I don't know if I have anything small enough for leaf wise or can find one that will fit a 1/6" or so sling. I had to house it in one of the two bottles it came in. Right now it is in the P. Irminia arrival bottle. There is some moss in there though.

I'd use something bigger. I find they're not as liable to bolt and you have more reaction time in larger bottles, too. I've had no issues with them finding food in my larger pill bottles, either. Plus, they're easier to poke air holes in with a thumbtack.

You can easily find stuff like what I have at the dollar store or Walmart in the fish section.

Hello guys,

Sorry to bump an older thread, but I wanted to check in with others who got a h. javana from Tarantulas Canada, since I did also. How are your slings doing? Mine just shed again and is looking awesome,
here it is with a cricket in its mouth. I'd love to see and hear how yours are doing, anyone?
