:) ok, just being cautious, not 100% sure they will even arrive safely, I'm getting one of my friends to ship me some and he says that he isn't sure if they will make it becaue they are more fragile when it comes to shipping. Will they accept mashed fruit and the like? thanks!
It's worth a try! For some reason, I think fresh peaches might work.

Velvet ants (aka "cow killers" or mutillids) will feed on almost any sticky sweet liquid, ranging from maple syrup to sugar water. Also, they will suck juices from sliced grapes, and I've sen them take fruit baby food.

Possibly the pepsids would do likewise.

Shipping wasps

Thanks for the info I've got everything set, but here's a question on both Cow killers and Hemipepsis: how would you ship them? I was thinking, for a velvet ant at least, get a deli cup with some crumpled, slightly moistened paper towel? Or would it have to be dry? As for the Hemipepsis I have no Idea how a large active wasp would be shipped? Seems like it would be a horror trying to get it in and out of the shipping container!

To get it into/out of the shipping container, put it in the freezer for 1 minute to slow the wasp down (or however long it takes for it to become sluggish). Then you can move it to wherever it needs to go.
