This large spider was found in an outdoor shed in the city of Edmonds WA. Size is approximately 3 inches, and the color is black with the brown markings on abdomen. Can you tell me what kind of spider this is?

I would say T, Dullica house spider or T,Agrestis,..Although most of them look the same?? to a degree, I've got one T,Dullica+False widow sp just now both around 3-3.5" leg span and another female Dullica in my gallery from 2013, she produced an egg-sac that i let them all free last year.

Soz my post maybe confusing lol.

It does look exactly like T,Dullica (house spider) that has been all over the EU/US etc and is a UK spider from what i know, all they need is food and nice temperature they are hardy and can live almost anywhere,, given the abdomen pattern i'll get a pic of mine 2 moz and put it I'm my gallery, could be the same or completely different.

Other than what i said in my post.. I do agree with The Snark.

There is no such thing as T.duellica. It's E.atrica now.
Also Mark, your post is a bit hard to understand or are you claiming to have a 3" false widow?

Hanska T, Dullica does exist and mostly a UK spider, look up wiki page etc or even my T gallery on here. well unless its changed its name for some strange reason its still T, Dullica?? (to me) and they very vicious spiders that grow large as a UK house spider plus have migrated a lot.

I do understand the "to me" factor. But for some reason is, if I'm not too wrong DNA-tests that found T.gigantea, T.atrica and T.duellica to be the same species and not that related to other Tegenaria so it got a new genus.

Ok the (to me) is T,Duellica was always the name since i was 5-6 yr old and I've had house spiders/True spiders/OW and NW between that time now I'm 28, that's why it's name to me is the same, you are right as each genus is from a different continents although the family do consists of being the same spider but different abdomen pattern's, I did have a false widow sp but sadly she died last year after having her over 11 months.

Oh Hanska they are all family members in some respect, Hobo spider, Gigantea, Duellica.

I've got false widows and the real ones but 3"? Must have been a typo.

Thanks! Always something new to learn on arachnoboard. I have read that the E. Aratica keep the Hobo's from being house spiders. The males kill other Hobo males. This is clearly a male, so maybe he is an old Hobo warrior. Good information everybody.

That is definitely a giant house spider (Eratigena atrica). there are Thousands of these spiders across Western Washington. Also the spider is a female. (males have longer legs and have diff. pedipalps than females.) these spiders spin funnel webs to catch prey, but i think they are a bit lazier than grass spiders, grass spiders can spin a huge web in 1 DAY !!!!:wideyed:
