Hello, I had bought some hornworms for my bearded dragon, some turned into cocoons so I decided to keep 'em around. Recently a few of them had hatched and I'm having trouble feeding them. All they've been doing is sitting on the curtains for the whole day since they emerged (I let them fly around in my room). One of them died but this one had hatched out of its cocoon a day before and didn't come out right. But the two that are capable of flying aren't drinking any of the sugar water I have out. I picked on up and it flew around with its proboscis sticking out but then it went to rest on the wall. I tried putting the sugar water closer to them while they were landed and they still wont drink it. I have them on a sponge with sugar water in it right now, is there anything else I can do?

Get a small hummingbird feeder, fill it with sugar water or hummingbird solution, and hang it in the room. These moths normally hover like hummingbirds in front of their food source while feeding. They don't typically feed while on the ground. A wet sponge on a dish or other horizontal surface is not going to attract them. The bright red or yellow "flowers" on the hummingbird feeder are more likely to attract them. They feed from fairly deep flowers, so they want something they can really sink their proboscis into.

You could also get a small potted blooming plant (like jasmine or honeysuckle) from your local garden center and put that in the room.

Thank you! one of them started flying around the room and landed to feed from the sponge when i turned the lights off. I'll get the feeder anyway though because I imagine that'll make things easier. One of the other ones is just sitting though, I think it's dying even though it had its proboscis in the sponge earlier maybe it's just tired. Again, thank you!
