I've recently been fascinated with the habits of jumping spiders and have been looking into getting one. There aren't any breeders near me and I've heard that although taking from the wild is frowned upon, due to the abundance of jumping spiders, taking one shouldn't hurt the ecosystem. I've done a lot of research, but since this is my first ever Terrarium build, I wanted to ask which enclose I should buy. I can either go with the Exo-Terra Mini 30x30x30 (measurements in centimetres) or Exo Terra Nano Tall 20x20x30 cm. As there is only a small difference in price right now, I feel as thought the Mini would give me more bang for my buck and the spider wouldn't mind more space. I also wish to make his enclosure bio-active. I would greatly appreciate any advice or friendly tips this forum could give me.

Thank you! I really appreciate any advice from a veteran such as yourself. I'm just guessing, but could the issue be the mesh top? Because I've heard that it might dry out the enclosure too much .

I’ve seen people use the nano tall but it could be hard to find them and you’re going to have to have an adult if you go that route. so I would probably use an arboreal tarantula cribs enclosure

So you definitely do need to go the route of those expensive options here’s too example that I have used for adults that cost $10-15 one I converted out of a acrylic shoe box and the other is a good storage container. Both are attractive enough to have them on display IMO. You don’t have to spend loads of money on expensive enclosures to achieve a nice look! Sorry If I'm a bit late, but why does it matter if the enclosure is big if the spider is a sling? I was under the impression that these spiders are keen on more space and exploring and would not lose track of their prey. Or is there some other reason.

Thank you truly for the advice, I think I'm going to go to the same route and reuse one of my clear plastic containers as I think that might look even better. Do you have to regulate the moisture of your enclosures often? I'm asking because you have a lot of holes and I'm wondering if you have any tips on how many and the placement of the ventilation holes. Thank you in advance.

P.S. I love the look of your terrariums.

They do like lots of space but they start out super tiny so it would be hard to find them in to big of an enclosure and they could potentially escape

You do have to regulate moisture depending on the species you choose and the amount of ventilation you use. I do not have to stress to much about mine in the first 2 photos I have a more xeric species Phidippus cf. pruinosus that is native to my area. It webbed it self up all winter and I noticed that slings have hatched right now so I need to separate them here pretty soon and release some back out.

Yeah I was wondering how people who breed them, do with all of the slings that they don't need. That's pretty interesting, because for most pets it's recommended that you do not release them back into the wild.

Well this species an adult gravid female was collected directly from my area and she laid a sac in captivity. It is completely safe and ethical to release these back to the exact same spot I collected the female from.

I only use these for my exotic subtropical species. Most species available for purchase in United States will not require this. That said, I currently have around 12 Exo-Terras. Most are the 8x8x8 which I prefer! I have one 12x12x12 which I divided a I just don't like it. Waaaaay too large.

That looks so good! I have a question though. Is that top net a hazard? I mean would my jumping spider get stuck ?
