Help with care for a few species that doesnt seem to have info on them

Hey. I am getting the species Grammastola anthracina and it doesn't seem to have alot of info about this glorious species. Anyone have any ideas?

Are they kept bone dry like my pulcra and pulcripes?

Are they terrestrial too?

I'm also getting a Theraphosinae sp Roatan.


Are they a moist species like my phormictopus?

Kept like any other Grammostola species.
Not sure about the sp. roatan as I've never had one.

It's always a good idea to message the actual dealer about them aswell. Surely they should know how to care for their stock

H macs are kittens compared to S cal, venom much more potent is the common thought, and speed like few others

Yea itsbwhat I heard and it's why I hope they don't give me one for the mystery fathers day deal.

I have old worlds as my first spiders and I know it's not recommended but I do not want a pokie or a scal... they intimidate me. Lol.

My first Ts((first few months of owning Ts))

P. Muticus. Hmac. P. Murinus. C. Darlingi. H. Gigas. H. Pulcripes. Yhats my current old worlds. Lol. I havevmore new worlds than that but yeah scal and pokies? I think I'm good for a year or two.

The Murinus and Darlingi already threst posed me and were stubborn to tehouse. I don't need the flash and that terrible venom

Treat every tarantula like it's an old world and you'll never have a bad time.

I treat every spider like an old world that also have hairs. So far every T is very docile/skittish so no hair flicking yet. I hope they remain unstressed so they never want to so that.



Horrible grain picture due to files not transferring right but anyone know what kind of jumper this is? He's huge like 1/2 inch. I'm in Texas.

Its highly unusual for species within the same genus to have different care....even more unusual (I can only think of one) where they whole group doesnt follow the same classification (terrestrial/arboreal)

Theyre basically the exact same t to care for....anyone who tells you a featherleg is different from an H. mac hasnt ever had them.

Well I'm still new to Tarantula keeping. I'm only 3-4 months in. I'm doing great and love everything I have and have done rehousing with some new rehousing needed in the next few weeks... I just don't know everything.


As for featherleg vs Hmac. I just went based on what I've heard. Featherlegs are faster and more venomous.

I have a Theraphosinae sp Roatan. They are terrestrial, from my reading on them, very basic care, however, do enjoy a bit of moisture in one corner of the enclosure. Do not expect too much color until the grow a bit. Mine is still a juvenile, not showing true colors yet.

So just keep them like a normal tropical like my Phormictopus's?


Also my facoeite T breeders may have Sturmis next weeeek!!!!. Fuuuuuuudge. I think I'll be getting a Sturmi too! Wooooo!

You will want to have enough substrate for a juvenile to burrow and dig to the moist depths of substrate.

not true.....venom is top level in both cases and speed and behavior is pretty much exactly the same.

I would agree though, both would be terrible choices for an inexperienced keeper.

I have my Phormictopus like that. Lotsbof substrate. It's how I treat my Grammastolas except the Gs are kept dry. Always give sub to burrow.

I'm not going to shy away and not do what I need to do to give it a home. I had to nut up and take care of it.i do appreciate all the advice!

I see giving one of these as a random freebie as a sign of a poor seller. Its also why I dont like random "surprise" packages where the buyer doesnt know what they are getting. New keepers should never buy these mystery packages. If you are inexperienced, its imperative that you know exactly what you are buying. Imagine buying a corn snake and a bull snake and receiving a green mamba as a freebie. That's pretty much what happened to you.

Keep in mind, while a sling is super-fast and skittish, it offers noting that will prepare you for its capabilities when it reaches a larger size.
