Looks to me like it's an Avicularia sp Blue Velvet "Blue velvet pink toe" sling, going by the colouration. I can't see the abdomen very well dose it look something like this...

As for housing any basic aboreal sling set up will be fine. I have my Versicolor of the same size in this...

As the others have mentioned ventilation is key with Avics.

Hope this helps.

@Ash Wilson Follow the advice of others in this thread for the setup and housing of your Avic spp.

Also, think about this. You have the set up for an adult already ready. Why not find an adult somewhere (such as AB classifieds) and then you will have a larger spider for show and tell and the ability to watch your sling grow over time? Just a thought, I mean why waste a perfectly good set up? ;)

In the future, steer clear of reptile vendors. They often know little about invertebrates and a great many of them, such as the one you ordered this one from, have bad histories of selling poor specimens.

It is also not at all "strange" that you already love the spider. I mean, look at the lot of us!!! :D

@Ash Wilson , you are doing fine. That's a pretty good enclosure you came up with on short notice.

However, is that a large cricket I see in there? If so, i would cut it in pieces - I know it's yucky but it makes it much easier for the sling to eat. I'm not really sure if your Avic will try something as large as that. Also I think Avics rely more than other Theraphosidae on movement clues to recognize their food/prey, meaning they are not as likely as other spiders to scavenge. It may still scavenge, but just to be on the safe side I'd try to get some mini crickets somewhere.

If it isnt A. Purpurea then what could it be?
No one will be able to say for sure...there are some that are distinctive as slings, like purpurea and versicolor for example, but there is a whole bunch that look too similar to ever know which one it is...in fact, you may never know, even as an adult.

oh no.. backwater reptiles strikes again. they are the pinnacle of stupid when it comes to arachnids. dont ever order from them.

check that out.
Did he say that that place was recommended? I just can't believe anyone would ever order from them....its shows how important it is to be one of the first things to come up when you google.https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=tarantula+for+sale+usa&spf=573

Is there a place that has good reviews for them somewhere or do people just not look.:banghead:

Literally the worst place to buy an arachnid from in the country, bar none...in fact, its a good idea to always avoid reptile places....there are plenty of reliable tarantula specific delaers available all over the country, why not shop there, they know what they are doing.

I really feel bad that you didn't get prior warnings before you ordered. http://arachnoboards.com/threads/backwater-reptiles-www-backwaterreptiles-com.235500/

There wasnt much room for plants. What do you think about this?

Add plants, there is room....its too barren. You want the wood surrounded by plants so the t has something to web to....they like cover...clutter is good. But you're on the right track.

Purple pinktoe or not, she is beautiful and lovely and i love her already. Is that weird?

No...we all get it:)

Funny, I've never had much luck getting avic slings to take pre-killed...sometimes they do...many times they don't, I have talked to @viper69 about this more than once and I know he's had the same difficulties with pre-kill for avics slings...definitely worth a try, but it will be easier after it webs a little mat.

I'd just get smaller crickets;)

I have also had issues with avics taking pre killed prey before such as crickets and roaches but I have had some success with a cut in half meal worm so you can always try that as well, but yeah smaller crickets is the sure way.

I would also still try to contact the seller, what you have is not what you paid for. They should give you a partial refund. Next time you decide to buy a T try someone who posts on these boards.

@cold blood i think people get a false good impression of BR because they remove negative reviews on their Fb page.
@OP, No. No it is not strange at all for you to already love it :). Avicularia spp get that job done every single time. It is something about the way they walk, like their legs are too long or they are pretty drunk or something. Only other T I've seen walking like that is my E.sp.Red. Which also is very lovable :)

I dunno. Maybe I am an odd duck.

I did not care much for my A. avic for the first 2 or 3 weeks of sharing a home with her. Let me say this though: I still loved her...as I love all my babies.
Anyway, the catch to this is that she (or he?) is now the apple of my eye. Such a darling. That fat blue/orange buttox, those blue/black legs, and the teensy pink club toes= so darling.
Add those physical attributes with her calm demeanor...and I am enamored for a lifetime. Lol :happy:

My love for mine were tempered by the worry because of their sensitivity in the beginning, but I love mine now :)

In all honesty, that same issue likely had a great deal to do with my initial skittishness towards my love for my avic. Lol.

I would completely ignore reviews on any site where the company being reviewed has editorial control.

Hell, even without such control, it's not uncommon to see shill reviews on popular sites. (On Amazon and Yelp, for example, there's no way to tell which reviews are real and which are fake.)

I certainly derail threads as much as Chris does! I'm not sure who the worst offender is, tbh.
