Hey guys, I'm just wondering, I just got a 1cm-1.5cm P. Irminia and it's doing well, it has good appetite and all but the problem is it likes to stay on the cover of it's plastic container, does that mean it doesn't like the setup or is there something I'm doing wrong? I'm using a small container that used to be a container for strawberry jam and I washed it well but it still smells a little bit like strawberry jam, could that be the reason?

Maybe... Or it can be the substrate. It might be a little wet... Pinoy pride... Go pacquiao.m.

Hmmm... I'll check that out but I don't think it's wet. Funny how this thread has pacquiao on it. Lol

Well I don't know enough about strawberry jam (other than it's delicious on toast!) to tell you if the residual smell would be harmful to your spider so if it were me I'd use something else just in case.

As for hanging in the lid, I experienced something similar with my little irminia slings. When I first got em, I put them in these salt shakers with just sub. They just crawled around everywhere on the sides and lid and would bolt whenever I opened the shaker. I stuck a small piece of corkbark in each, and within a day they all had webbed up a nice retreat attatched to it and became more sedentary.

So, if all you have in there is sub, maybe give em more web anchors to build a nice retreat with.

Or if it's a recent aquisituon, it could simply be still settling in, though I've always found these guys to take no longer than a single night to get comfy.

At any rate, glad to hear you've finally got your irminia! You're gonna have a lot of fun with this one!

...And oh yeah, go Pacman :)

Im sure it wont stay there forever. My A.Avic and A.versicolor slings use to stay up on the cap a lot too. Give it time.

Thanks, I love the spunk on this one and she(hopefully a she) never bolts, when i open the container, she just stays on the cover, i just feed her there. I hope she molts soon.
About pacquiao, he got stupid and joined politics, he ran and won the position of congressman.

I guess you're right about that, the important thing is that it's eating. It ate around 3 or 4 lats since yesterday.

Did you put in something for it to stand on? Cork bark is great because P irminias make tube webs and they can create a tube web with cork bark very easily. Mine makes its tube webs on the underside of the cork bark.

I'll look for something it can climb on. For now there's only 1 small cork bark and 3 toothpicks leaning against the wall.

Tooth picks ? Strange . . . Yeah , a nice sized piece of wood/bark will do great . I would go and get a cheap deli container at a store , or a nice cube enclosure at Michaels ;)

Ok, i already put a fake leaf inside, i might put another one if it's not enough. I just took the leaf from the fake leaves inside my B. Smithi's enc. Should i wash the leaf 1st or is it ok not to?

Psalmopoeus are as reclusive as they are fast. The few times they do come out, they are startled easily and snap back into their hides with a speed that would make a cheetah envious. I've noticed mine start to come out more as they gain size, which as you know doesn't take long. I wouldn't worry much. They are very hardy and could make a hide out of just about anything. Great spiders. One my top 10 for sure (for the moment).

It's actually on my top 5 because it's so pretty. Also because i only have 5. Is it a good sign that it likes the enclosure if it is eating? I think i have read somewhere that Ts won't eat unless they already settled in their enclosures.

i think it may be seeking better ventilation possibly. i put some plastic on a few of my screens to keep in humidity and i noticed one of my Ts went up to the uncovered area. (B. boehmei) i figured premolt may need more humidity temporarily. she is mostly a pet rock, fat pet rock at that. So i IMO thats why my t went to the top of the enclosure, and she is premolt so not very active.
also the sub is dry and she had just drank water cuz she was wet when i moved her down.

It may be trying to escape the light also. some pictures would give us a better idea.

Mine did this too, so I decided to keep her in an arboreal set-up.. She seems to like it better =)

I was gonna post pics but i got a bit busy. I'll try to post tomorrow morning. I poked 21 holes with a needle, 9 on top and 12 on the sides. Should i add more? And i don't think it's the light, the whole thing is transparent.

Mine is also in an arboreal setup, i'll give it a few days if it still won't come down, i'll change the enclosure.

My p irminia sling has gone into hiding and after looking for him/her in the deli dish i found her in a newly tubed web on the bottom side of the fake leaf in the dish. i haven't seen her for about 4 to 5 days now, which is strange because she was all over the place before that. Do you guys know if this is the "norm" now that she is settled in... or is it pre molt?
