Use a small piece of cork bark partially buried in the substrate. Take something small and round like a pencil or paint brush handle and make a small hole leading underneath the cork batk.

Your hide must have an open bottom. T's will dig down in their burrow to find a moisture and humidity level they desire. With a closed end hide they will be deprived of this and their well being may suffer.

I think it's ugly, and not functional for me. I'd never use it.

The log will be fine. You can set that up as a proper hide.
That bark substrate is a disaster.
Don't use bark or woodchips as substrate.
Get yourself some peat or coco fiber or topsoil.
Just don't use that bag of mulch.

If you're saying the bark mulch is ok because it's reptile substrate, you're mistaken.
It might be fine for some reptiles but tarantulas aren't reptiles. Please take my advice and use an appropriate substrate. Do it for the spider.

Yes please don't use that bark/ wood chips, highly unsuitable for a spider.
Can't dig into it, sharp edges, just nasty stuff

The substrate you want is something like this

It says for moist enclosures but you can just let it dry before adding the animal and it will be fine. It's cheap, makes a soil that the spider can dig in and is free from pests and chemicals.

perhaps if it’s plastic you could cut out the bottom, sand the sides of the bottom smooth, then place it into a corner of the tank at an angle so it creates a unique sort of tube which could lead to a substrate bottom that it could further create a little burrow with? that’s what immediately comes to mind to me

It's cool, I dont think tarantulas care about decoration, it's about what you like, even dare I say, a plastic skull.eet their needs, and their content : )

I don't understand your answer quite well, but please do not buy tarantula specific substrates... They are basically topsoil but at much higher price...

Buy the cheapest topsoil, without any fertilizers and pesticides, you can get 25L for 3£, if not less...
