Hi everyone,
I notice my C. cyanopubescens sling is in this weird position. Also it has something white under the mouth. I’m really worried. It was fine this morning. :(
Is he molting?
Help, please.

They don't molt like that.

Can you post some clearer pictures please?

Could you get a better pic and one of the rest of the enclosure? I can’t tell if that’s just it’s molt or not …🤷

He is walking around the enclosur, so I think he’s not molting.
I don’t know if the part that I‘m highlighting with the arrow is ok or not :(
Sorry, I can‘t take better pics.

Looks like some sort of cyst or healed up injury and they molt on their backs usually so nope not molting … useful info ℹ here;

The top pic looked like a leak to me, but the bottom doesn’t. I have to agree with Ultum4spiderz, maybe a cyst or healed over injury. If (s)he’s moving around, it may not be bothering her/him. You may have it in there already, but make sure she has a water dish.

Do you feed live prey?

Only thing I can think of is the enclosure is maybe too tall and it probably hurt itself falling.

These T's think they're arboreal but they aren't. General rule of thumb is 1.5 their legspan as enclosure height to prevent fall damage. Looks like you have about 2x the height necessary.

I kept watching him, and notice he is leaking below the sternon. I think that he got injured with a sharp edge of the fake plant. He was looking lethargic, so I manage to put some starch in the leakage, now he is walking again really slow. And I’m not longer disturbing him. I will check on him tomorrow morning.
I feel so anxious and worried. :(
Thanks to every one who repplied.

Is it still leaking? Apply little dabs of cornstarch with a Qtip or something soft until it stops. If you keep letting it bleed, it will die overnight.

If you can stop the Hemolymph from leaking out your T may have a chance at recovery.

I already applied starch. Now he is walking around.
I really hope he survives:(

Yes but is it still leaking? You need to apply it until the wound seals itself and stops leaking, otherwise it will just bleed to death overnight.

I think that the wound is sealed. I don’t see traces of liquid where he walked.

Looks like an injury but can’t say region is blurry

what’s weird about the position your T is in?????? I feel you don’t have a good idea of what Ts can do with their bodies

I never saw him in that position before (I’ve keeping him since February), so It seemed weird to me.

He survived the night. And now he is webbing below him.
Hope he makes it!
Any other recommendations?

glad it survived- not weird - merely something you haven’t observed.

enjoy

Great news. Give him fresh water and offer him a prefilled item. He will need it to replenish his lost juice.

Btw, I mentioned it briefly but this is a terrestrial species. If you do some reading on them, you'll find they never evolved to withstand falls the same way arboreal species have. That doesn't stop this species though, and many keepers have reported they like to climb, potentially to their own injury.

You can prevent this type of accident by adjusting your keeping practices according to each specie's requirements.

I know you are new, but continue to learn and look for information regarding the care of your specific T.

Hi,

I’m reviving this thread to update and to share a new experience I witnessed while caring for “Mirruña” (my Chromatopelma’s name, which means “tiny thing” in Spanish).

After the wound near the sternum was sealed with cornstarch, Mirruña molted a few times and fully recovered:
  • 22-Aug-2023
  • 29-Oct-2023
  • 03-Apr-2024
Posterior to the last molt, I started noticing something was off in her carapace:
Mirruña_1.jpg

So I searched old pictures of her and realized that the weird spot was present before the latest molt:
Mirruña_2.jpg

Also, I looked inside her exuvia and found a black spot:
Ext_Int_1.jpg

Despite everything, Mirruña was doing fine, eating, webbing, etc. Then, on 28 May 2024, I fed her, and everything seemed normal until the evening of that same day, when I noticed she was bleeding from the odd region in her carapace, once again I applied cornstarch to stop the bleeding. Luckily, I managed to seal the wound before she began to be weaker. Days after, I fed her again and took this picture:
Mirruña_cornstarch.jpg

Finally, she molted on 17 Jun 2024 and today Mirruña enjoyed eating a mealworm. I took her exuvia and I was shocked when I opened it. IDK, for me, it looks like a cyst or a tumor.

Ext_Int_2.jpg

Here is a picture of Mirruña after her last molt; I think that her carapace is looking better and I hope that the cyst or tumor is gone and she will fully recover in future molts:
Thanks for reading me, and I would appreciate your insights, opinions, suggestions, knowledge, etc about this.
