heatmats

hi ive got a heatmat for my tank but it doesn't seem to be heating the tank that much. should i put it under the tank or in the tank under the substrate?

What are you tring to heat and how big is the tank?

its a tank for my chile rose. its 8 high, 14 long and 8 wide.

I would put it on the outside of the tank on the back and not underneath.Thats what I do.

I don't like heat mats

Heat Mats suck, ive found no matter where you put them on your tank they end up cracking it, they are not good for plastic tanks eventually collect dirt and loose there stick
ive replaced to many tanks, the cost is not worth it. use an infared bulb instead you spiders will be much happier anyways.

how much do they cost and do u need a thermostat for them?

I agree. Mine is under my tank and it's not getting the job done. A buddy of mine has his on the side of one of his tanks and it generates more heat than on the bottom. But if you have a plastic tank, be careful. Mine is glass so I don't have to worry.
