Well StarRacer. Eden's little T.Blondi didn't make his molt.
I Have No idea Why. He was strong and healthy, well fed. The hunidity was nice and the temp was right. All according to Blondi specs. But he just didn't make it. Eden found him first thing this morning while making her rounds "kissing" all her babies bye for the day before school.
She was still fighting tears when she got on the bus and her Pre.K teacher calls to sy she was upset all day. I was thinking about keeping her home but thought school would be a good distraction for her.
She's Just Crushed. She Loved that little bug so much and was really watching him grow, So proud of it.
When she turned to me this morning and said "Starracer's sick mommy." My stomach just fell. I checked him. Sure enough. Gone and gone and gone. Needless to say Eden just Knew what was up and burst into tears.
This is just so upsetting.
:( :( :( :(

Awwww, damnit...I'm so very, very sorry. Even though we, as adults, do lose our t's to various causes; its worse for the little guys. I live in constant fear, myself, of my Kaja's every molt. How big was Star Racer?
(hugs for you guys)
Peace,
Gillian

He was a little under an inch. Frisky and active. A Great eater.
Eden is just a mess the poor thing.
That was HER T and she adored it.
Thanks Gillian.
Damn it.

Oh I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I lost a T. blondi last year to a bad molt. It happens to the best of us. Send my simpathy to Eden for her loss.

Thanks Spider_savior.

(Sighs)
Well the Twin's got home and Eden is still just broken up.
I let her burry StarRacer in the flower pot the girls planted to go between the T's houses.
She wrapped him up in a little piece of velvet form one of her craft kits and decorated his spot with beads and a few little plastic heart charms and that seems to have made her feel a little better.
She's sitting on the couch now reading a Winnie pooh book to her L. parahybana, Willy, in her little tub habitat.
She checked all her babies first thing when she came home and fed them all their afternoon crickets.

I just Hate a pet up and keeling like that.
If there were a Reason. Ok fine.
But to just up and croak is hard.

Unfortunetly Faith,, her twin sister pipped up that maybe mommy can buy her a new baby blondi.
I said ERK?

Because I can't.

But Willy is cheering her up quick.
he's on his fith cricket and she is happly tossing in another every time he finishes one. Watching eight legged freaks and "covering Willy's eyes" ( by blocking his view to the TV) during the bad people hurt the spiders parts....

His tub is beside her in the chair and she keeps saying. "Ok, you can look now Willy."

Thanks pamandron.
She seems to be springing back.
She's happy that StarRacer has a nice resting spot and Willy now is on her 8'th little cricket. I gave her a cup of small ones to feed him so she could feed him longer.
They're bite sized to Willy. :)

I'm gonna have to scrape up enough to get another Blondi I just know it.

Then I have to wait till the shop gets one in and hopefuly in my price range. :p

oh, that's so sad. Our 3rd tarantula, an A avic, died 17 days after we got her. She didn't survive her molt. Shelby was heartbroken, we had to bury her in the back yard. Since then, it's happened more than once, and it's always gut wrenching. That's the hard part about owning pets...but it's so worth it!
Give the twinners hugs from Shelby and I!

Spider_savior my oldest daughter Alicia ( age 15 ) picked out Eeden's name while she was still a blip on the sonogram. She didn't know her gender. She Just wanted twin baby sisters.
So Was Sure she would get what she wanted and picked names.

Immortal_sin pets are Tough. But your right. Worth it. And even the gut wrenching parts are part of life. Things kids have to learn. She burried him and moved on. She misses him but isn't crying anymore. She was actualy giggling today aout how cute he was when he ran down crickets. She thought his little round butt was So cute. Willy stopped eating at fifteen small crickets. Not pinheads. But the little almost half inchers. And is now fafttened up but Good from his molt a few weeks ago. He's eaten some since he's hardened up but last night he got spoiled and just gobbled. Eden says Willy Loves "popcorn crickets."
I passed on the hugs from Shelby and yourself and am sending lots back from the twins ((((((HUGS))))))) :)

Tarantula Lover I passed on the hugs and your sent hugs back. :) ((((( HUGS)))))
Willy is about an inch and a half right now and a Very extremly good eater. He's still little enough for Eden to hold but not so little that I have to sit her in a big rubbermaid box when she holds him anymore. She is ferociously proud of how much he's grown. She mists his habitat herself and changes his water and feds him. The twin's T's are their responsability. Just like all their pets. Mommy Helps. I deal with the hot spiders but have them set up so that faith can give her's the care they need water and food wise without ever putting a finger in the enclosiers or popping the top and any open enclosier work I do. i do in the bathroom while the twins are at school.
Even dealing with the little s'lings. They they break a cricket in half or catch pinheads for them from the little tub we keep the pinheads in. Picking Willy out just the right sized crickets and putting them in a cup was part of having Willy with her on the couch to watch TV.
They had a snow day today and I have to go help them get Sunshine and Moonbeam out.

Thank you all for putting up with my whining and being so sweet and supportive. :)

Nixy,
I didn't think you were whining; more along the lines of coping. Besides, if you were whining, most of us were there too..:)
Peace,
Gillian

Well Eden has decided she wants another blondi. Yes She did decide it. I let the twins pick out thier spiders and Eden Keeps going back to the T blondi and telling me That's what she wants. She Knows to call it a Blondi, knows the name when she sees it and Knows what she likes.

She's decided to name it Twinkle.

Now I just have to figure out how to get her one.

Kids are resiliant and bounce back fast. they just need a few hugs till they do.

Have you considered taking Alicia to a casino or a racetrack? I'm just sayin, with her track record...:D

Glad that Eden's feeling a bit better. I think it rocks that your daughters are into spiders at such a young age. I pity the silly bully that would try scaring them with real or fake spiders (as little boys often do). They'd get a lecture, I'm guessing.

They're so cute about it too, with the molting dances and reading to the Ts. Great kids you have there.
