Happy Spider Day!!! This holiday comes around everytime a package of Tarantulas is delivered. More importantly, it contains that Tarantula you lose sleep over wanting.

Look here look here! Miss Annitha is here! (Named annitha out of spite)

Gorgeous. Absolutely stunning. I like 'smithi' better than hamorii, appearance-wise. Too bad me and Brachypelma species don't mix anymore...
Congrats on the beautiful addition :)

Based on this thread posted recently by Jose (@Exoskeleton Invertebrates), it appears to be B. hamorii. There are further diagnostic features described by @AphonopelmaTX in this post which is taken from the paper describing the species revision.

AphonopelmaTx said:
- Ventral side of spermatheca smooth/ without striations (striations present in B. smithi)
- Spermathecal baseplates elliptical (subtriangular in B. smithi)
- Cheliceral bands present (not present in B. smithi)
I hope there wasn't a hefty premium on the beautiful girl because of the species. Perhaps I'm wrong, as well, but maybe one of the others can weigh in.

First off, this is exactly what I love to see. Somebody doing their research, focusing on the finer details that help describe a species, and then helping others better understand by including knowledge, references, and experience. This is how we all learn, and I am grateful for your post. It reflects a positive dialogue of someone who has gone above the norm of learning how to distinguish between species and then using that knowledge to help others in a constructive manner.

Now for a few facts since her arrival. I have both smithi and hamorii to cross examine, to which both are visually and distinctively different. I have her CITIES identification number. And lastly, I was referred to the seller by 'The' highly knowledgeable Brachypelma expert and also by 'The' most respected importer and person I know. Aside from my own personal experience of keeping Brachypelma smithi, I 100% trust the sources of this purchase. She is indeed a true Brachypelma smithi ex annitha.

Cheers!

Very interesting! The locality she was collected from will give good information as well, since she is wild caught.

I have no reason to doubt the information you were provided.

The exporter is only able to sell captive born out of Mexico. Justin “YellowBrickRoad” does have a Brachypelma smithi. I know that there are times that is hard for people to ID a certain tarantula cause of the way some photos appear. I understand that some photos don’t appear crystal clear like my photos but I can assure you that Justin specimen is smithi. I know I’m the one who encourage Justin to get one and whom to get the female from.

@YellowBrickRoad thats cool that you finally got one. As you know I now have five females that my male will be getting it on with when he matures. At least I nope he gets busy with at least one of the females.
