H.spinifers and P.imperators

i read somwhere, i forget where from though, that these two species can live communaly?

is this true?

Yep, it usually turns out fine. I've got 3 emps, an H. spinifer and an H. longimanus together. I frequently find the different species under the same hides. Be careful though, a fight could ensue.

how big are all the scorps?

They're all roughly the same size. The two Heterometrus are just slightly smaller than the biggest emp.

ah alright, i just put my H.spinifer and P.imperator in the same setup after testing them out, if theyd fight or not, still keeping my eye on them, but they are doing fine, heres some pics.

on first glance they appear to be H.laoticus (more docile)

ill try to back that up tomorrow!

you may as well be right, cause the whole time i assumed it to be H.spinifer, since the common name i bought it under was Asian Forest Scorpion.

an Asian forest scorp can be a number of different species. It's such a general name.

i once saw a "malaysian vietnamese forest scorpion" for sale on a website.
how pathetic!!!

they obviously thought big black scorps were called "vietnamese forest scorpions", and this was just a malaysian variety

the key to H.laoticus is that there is no granulation (granules) on the prosoma, the carapace where the eyes are.

ALL other species of Heterometrus have granules, especially H.spinifer which has two distinct patches either side of the eyes

oh i didnt know that, i just looked it up and H.spinifer came up, yikes. hopefully someone can identify it for me! =)

and would it be alright to add another emp in there, itll be from the same place where i got my previous emp

and does the substrate need to be moist or does it just need to be humid, thanks!

of eother of them were to sting each other, would it kill it? like if the emp was to sting the H.lao would it kill it or vise versa?

well not good, they were both fighting, tails up striking and everything! so i seperated them, and prbly just gonna go buy 1or2 more emps from the same place i got the previous one,

i didnt see any hits but i prbly missed alot, cause i saw it in the corner of my eye and seperated them immediatly, but they coulda been at it for like 5 min for all i know =/ , now my question is if any of them did infact hit the other with the tail, would it die?
