Poisoning is used more by ranchers that feel their livestock is threatened - especially where they have been re-introduced.

There are, I believe, steep fines for those that kill them, so stealthier methods have been employed to avoid being caught.

Thats awesome Sheri!

When I went up to Calgary 2 years ago I saw lots of wildlife; black bear, elk, deer, mountain goat, big horn ram. Its amazing. The only thing close to wolves Ive seen is coyotes we get here. But then, I havent seen one in ages.

Thats really neat Sheri! Here in S. Jersey, I see red fox and muskrats around our house even though more and more houses have been built in our area.
I've had muskrats try to live in our garage and boy are they smelly. I've gone bike riding and found what looked like a dead mink living wild in a wildlife area.
Looked so much like a ferret which I love so it was sad. We have a pair of red tail hawks that live here around the house, have been for yrs. When I was in CA visiting my daughter (she lives in Yukaipa which is just south of San Bernadino) I was able to watch Bald Eagles flying around. She says they release the young birds there. When we were down by Palm Desert and up in the mountains near Pinyon Pines, I saw eagles and a white mountain goat.
Guess they have regular sightings of cougars around San Bernadino. I loved visiting out there. Never found any tarantulas or scorpions, but I sure did look while I was there whenever I had the chance. My daughter, Sherry, is
an electrician, and she has seen vineagaroons, scorpions, brown recluse spiders, & black widows on the job sites, but hasn't been able to collect any for me. Folks usually kill the bugs before she can get to them. I have her still looking though. I collected 3 L. hesperus widows from her back yard and mailed them home to my daughter Laura. My son-in-law thanked me profusely for getting them out of his yard. I think there could be a tarantula in their backyard, but I never tried to dig any up. Lots of gopher burrows and some had some silk at the entrances. I just love all kinds of wild life too, and will sometimes look even at road kill in case its something interesting.

I love seeing any kind of animals. My best sighting was when I had a paper route and so was out very early. One of the houses I delivered to had a very large red fox calmly sitting just in front of the front door of the house. After that, we always referred to it as "the house with the guard fox." I'm envious of your wolf sighting!!!!!!!

Me and Sheri went on a roadtrip west to Regina yesterday and on our way home today we saw a wolf on the railroad tracks next to the road! My first wild wolf sighting! Awesome!
