Hey all I am posting this here because it doesn't have a post new thread button in the bite reports thread and I'm not sure what the species/scientific name would be.

It bit me on my toe. The toe got swollen, red, and painful especially if anything touched it like a sock etc, then the next day skin was coming off similar to what comes off when you get a sun burn. Here are the best pics I have of it, hoping someone can help identify it to see if its a dangerous species. Tha ka to everyone in advance. I live in the Twin Cities in MN.

Definitely not dangerous, but it sounds like the bite was less than pleasant. Glad it all went ok!

"Medical Importance
The broad-faced sac spider has been reported to produce a painful bite. There are records of severe secondary infection associated with the bite. It has been suggested that these infections may result from the spider’s propensity for feeding on dead and decaying arthropods. Typically, the bite produces a painful erythema similar to that of a bee or wasp sting. Individuals who are sensitive to arthropod venoms may exhibit a more severe and possibly systemic reaction."

In other words, scrub the heck out of your toe with povidone iodine (Betadyne) and keep it clean clean clean. Head for the ER if redness starts moving up your foot.
