Nobody mentions S Rubronitens :( Imagine a pulchra, but with a hairy red butt. Little more skittish but manage-able.

Hi, I'm looking for another T and I was wondering how do you keep it: tree, earth, dry, semi-dry, humid? Does it dig alot? Thank you

I'm not a giant fan of pink but even so my C fasciatum was soooooo pretty. No picture I have ever seen has done one of them justice. That coppery pink is so satiny and and the black is so dark.

If you're cool with NW arboreals it's hard to get more striking then a P irminia (and speed wise it should help train you up to an eventual pokie).

Ditto the taps. They might not be so BLAM! RAINBOW IN YOUR FACE as a GBB, but they often seem to have a really beautiful anodized brushed metal appearance.

There's a 5 inch P. regalis at a local pet store, but they want $100 for it. Is that too much? (I'm not sure it's actually a regalis. My limited knowledge led me to believe that... they just call it an indian ornamental)
Hi! I wouldn't buy a Pokie as a 2. T, but if you decide to buy that specimen from the pet store, there is an easy way to determine if it's a regalis...If I'm correct, from the Pokies only the regalis has a pale gray stripe on the ventral side of the abdomen...

If I were you I'd stick with your first instinct. If you feel you are not ready for a pokie then you probably aren't. Check into Iridopelma hirsutum, Avicularia versicolor, Brachypelma species (such as boehmi, auratum, or smithi) Nhandu chromatus, Acanthoscurria geniculata...

SOOO many beautiful Ts. Just look. :D
I must agree that those are on my wish list, the a.versicolor for sure and the b.rachypelma also. I may buy a nhandu chromatus and the a. gniculata too. I also like the sun tiger alot! The other one too, the singapore blue? :D

There is so much beautiful Ts, it's definately very hard to choose. So I choose with the budget I have at hand...

Both the females I keep have burrows that I built up against the glass so I always see them. They are however very active and out and about all the time. Definately not very good climbers.... :} Mine like it about 50-70% on the humidity, more on the drier side than wet honestly.

PS, they are an EXCELLENT display tarantula. Highly visible :)

Poeci

They aren't as bad as people think....but YES, their venom is strong....just show the T the respect it deserves, and you should have no problems....my first T was a Rosehair, then a Cobalt Blue, then Avic avic, then the Indian Ornamental.....I was able to transition to different species quite easily, and you will too!!! :)

GBB, pockies, singapore blue and other colorful tarantulas are all amazing, but for me black background with some color in foreground is what i ask for.

G.pulchra, B.albiceps, B.smithi or B.annitha, etc. are tarantulas more 'durable' in loving them, after the recuperation of the first dazzling impression that the first group spiders give.

On the other hand, if i have to insist in total color, i prefer hot colors like pink, orange, purple, olive than cold colors like blue, green, yellow. Because of this, for example, G.rosea is a very beautiful tarantula for me.
