Just wondering how many of you use glass tanks instead of plastic containers for your scorpions? I like the clarity of glass but plastic is lighter to carry around when comes time clean their cages or other matience. Anyone ever use acrylic?

John, I use plastic myself. KKs and Tuppawear (the kind you get at the dollar stores). As far as the KKs, try not to score the sides so the scorps can't get a climbing hold. That's one thing nice about glass, it's smooth.

Acrylic aquarium:

More likely to have no metal borders (though there do exist frameless glass aquariums.)

No silicon bead on the corners (looks cleaner).

Glass aquarium:

More heat resistance.
Less susceptible to scratching.
Cheaper.

If I had my way I'd do 100% acrylic aquariums, but for custom build acrylic the price differential is quite a bit - considering going to glass in standard sizes.

plastic - cheaper, useful, stackable, all that stuff.

glass - stronger, tougher, and non-climable, (for scorps)

I use both. As long as you don't use anything to abrasive to clean it the plastic will stay clear for some time. Sun light will fade plastic also. I also use plastic jars from Wal Mart with good results for my smaller species.

Depends on what I'm housing. For my two emps, I use a Rubbermaid box with holes drilled in the sides. I find these boxes hold LOTS of humid air for LONG periods of time the one I'm using is far less expensive than a glass aquarium of similar size. It's also not as opaque as other kinds of containers so I can see okay inside of it. With desert scorpions, like my H. spadix, that are far less dependent on humidity I use aquariums.

Depends on my scorp. I have my emperor set up in a 10 gallon glass aquarium, my flat rock is in a plastic critter keeper and my babycurus jacksoni is in a glass mason jar.

This. Shoeboxes are incredible at holding humidity properly.

Anyone ever built any aycrlic cages? I have an idea on building one for some scorpions that like to burrow but the part that confuses me is how to get to glue to hold with the aycrlic cement. I have been using plastic boxes for a while they are affordable I like them but though maybe I could be artistic and design my own cage lol.

I use glass aquariums. With the weight of the set ups the weight of the glass is negligible. Here transparent acrylic enclosures the same size would be more costly than 10 gallon aquariums.

Im still new so correct me if im wrong. But i was under the impression not to use cardboard for anything because of issues with mold and other bacteria?

The shoeboxes I was referring to are plastic shoeboxes.
Like this.

Scorpions can climb cardboard with ease so don't use those.

I recently learned the some small scorps can climb the insides of the platic critter keepers. I recently had an I. Maculatus and a R. Junceus (both were around 3i or 4i) escape from their critter keeper. I couldn't figure it out until I caught another I. Maculatus 3/4 of the way up the side of its critter keeper (I had it in one of the mini-keepers). I found the R. Junceus, but lost one of the I. Maculatus. I now have moved them into deli-cups or tupperware of proper sizing and with ventalization holes small enough that the scorp can find through it.

My bigger spieces I keep in appropriately sized critter keepers or glass tanks (for the largest ones).

Plastic

Pros:
Stackable
Cheap
Keeps Humid high.
Easy to Clean!
Very light

Cons:
Not as clear
Doesn't give that "professional look"

Glass

Pros
Crystal Clear
Gives a great look
Big Sizes

Cons
Cleaning is a hassle
Heavy
Not stackable
Glass can get mineral deposits and mildew

*I prefer plastic because it is alot cheaper and makes your life easier (financial and time wise). I love the fact you can stack them (Good for big collections).
