Hello everyone!

I've been searching long and hard for a good glass enclosure and I heard that 5 gallon tanks are often used. However, I haven't heard much discussion about what to use as a lid for these tanks. Do you make your own?

Incidentally, there doesn't seem to be a good range of glass enclosures available for tarantulas. Many have mesh lids. The best I've found is Custom Aquaria which look AWESOME. But I'm struggling to contact them.

Any suggestions for glass enclosures would be really cool.

Thank you!

Glass tanks aren't used quite as much because it's hard to create ventilation....It's fine for terrestrials kept predominantly dry, but not ideal for many others.

Best replacement for a mesh top is to go to a hardware store and have them cut a piece of plexiglass or acrylic and then use a drill to drill out ventilation.

Thank you for a reply to a pretty common conundrum that's been discussed (I've just realised - I'm new haha).

I'm very tempted by the good acrylic enclosures but I don't like the idea that they often warp and their lifespan must thus be limited. I guess, if you replace the lids of these acrylic enclosures with plastic, their lifespan would be indefinite (I heard that you can have acrylic fish tanks and only the lids warp).

Thank you!

Search the net for 3rd party lid makers. You would need to know the dimensions of the black plastic frame on top of tank if you go with a custom one.

Acrylic is OK, glass is OK, both have +/- Glass is FAR easier to clean!!

The Spider Shop sell their own glass terrariums.
Matt at Custom Aquaria is not too fond of modern tech like emails, best to give him a call or chat to him at one of the Invert Shows.

I'm Taiwan we have a company that makes a great glass Viv with side vents and top. Sliding door, perhaps something similar exists in your country?

My go to for ventilation is punched steel or aluminum painted black. Stong, safe, loads of ventilation and easier to cut than glass. It's strong to act as lid as is for on top of an aquarium.
