I am considering acquiring a 3” juvenile Scolopendra sp. White Leg as a first centipede. I’ve searched the forums and intend to keep it largely dry with a water dish. I also understand that the first, second and third rules of centipede keeping is “escape proof”.

I’m considering a jar like this and wonder if I’m on the right track. I would ventilate the lid, and it’s around 7.5” in diameter and 15” high. Figure 5-6” of sub leaves plenty of height to make escape impossible, and I can grow it to perhaps 5 inches before a transfer to something bigger (maybe a 5 gallon version). Wondering if I’m on the right track.

I’d love to use a T Cribs enclosure like the 8” hexagon but I have not found a lot in the forums concerning whether a ‘pede could lift the magnetic lid—seems impossible to me but everyone says they’re extremely strong.

i wouldn't use this, because ventilation would likely be bad, no airflow

Thank you. I guess the question is, if I ventilate the top, and it’s a dry setup, will it matter as much? I wasn’t sure. I did see others say they use jars like this.

well yea, if you get the waterings just right it might work, but to me it's too risky

read through these and decide for yourself:

Scolopendra are not Ts, but i wouldn't skimp on the ventilation, that's how people get problems with mycosis etc.

OK, I appreciate your thoughts on this, thank you very much. I will continue brainstorming. :)
