There should be some warning that comes with this hobby explaining how darn addictive this hobby is! Maybe the "arachnologist general" or someone...

Anyway, since I just got some new slings in, I tried to get everything reorganized so I could tell what was what. I never thought I would have to actually label things to tell them apart. However, right now my G. aureostriata and G. rosea look almost exactly alike and my P. murinus slings are also about the same size.

Although my collection is tiny compared to some people's, I can't believe that I already own 9 Ts (one is at school)!

You can pick up the containers at a local craft store or a container store if you can find one (or go online). I get mine from Micheal's. You'll have to add the ventilation holes, but they work great.

I'm experimenting with vermaculite and peat moss. I've got some at 50/50, one at 100% vermaculite, and some at 100% peat moss.

Nice! Attractive presentation.

What are those containers referred to? I looked around our Michaels but did not see them. I just wondered what to ask for.

I'm not sure what they are called, exactly.

The UPC is 0 93573 30001 1

It says "Spanish Fork, UTAH 84660" on the bottom and I'm guessing the model or part number is 21-0001.

You have to get the tops on there just right to make sure they aren't loose. Michael's has lots of different sizes.

Nice! And I assume the big one is the one with the new lid? I finished building my two big tanks yesterday! :D I'm really tired of building these things now but I have a lot more planned - about 20 of which 1 is another big tank.

I've also labeled my tanks eventho it's just three at the moment, but it makes it feel more...homey in a way having it like that ;) but I guess in the future it will serve me well when even I continue following the call of my addiction...

Yeah, the big one is the one with a new lid.

Do you have any pics of the tanks you built yourself?

No... :( sorry, no pics. I have no digi-cam... I can get some made tho some time and I'd be happy to show them because I'm actually quite proud of them

I wonder if it would be an idea to write a little building guide which describes my methods, thoughts, some do's and don't do's, where I got materials and how to save money on it all... do you think there is any interest in that?

Definitely! I think everyone enjoys seeing new ideas and ways to build enclosures.

Back to this thread again...

I found those boxes at our Michaels the other day! I love the sizes, perfect for the slings when they get seperated.

A couple things I noticed in the ones they had on the shelf - quite a few of them had little chips or cracks on the lid lip. I take it they're fairly fragile, so I was wondering what you used to make your air holes. Did you melt them? Drill them?
Also, most of them, the lids were very loose on top of the containers. Only a couple held firmly. Did you find yours to get really loose-fitting too after opening them a few times? I wonder if a bit of something could be added, just to grip better (silicone or the likes?).

Dunno about those specific boxes, but I do know from experience that a dremel with a drill bit in it will cut through most hard brittle plastics without the cracking problems of using lower rpm drills.

I use a regular drill and it works just fine. Also, the lids were a problem until I realized that if I turned the lid 90 degrees or 180 degrees then the fit was tighter. I just had to find out how it "fit" best. I've used tape across the top for a couple that I was hesitant about.
