my new gekko

hello today I got a new gekko... I dont know what it is other than gekko... at the petstore they had it labled as Assorted... so I guess he is an Assorted Gekko. hahaha... but anyways. I got him for only 14 bucks they said it might grow to be 8 inches... but the species is unknown. anyone know what it is? also I dont know anything about Gekkos... so any help is appreciated.. here is a picture.

I already have an almost fully developed colony of N Cinarea (Lobster roach) how big/small can/should the roaches be to feed? and how often can/should I feed... can they over eat? the gekko is about 4 or 5 inches not including the tale..

-gatta love those huge pupils... long exposure.. high aperture no flash or bright lights.

I don't see the pic. Though a general rule with geckos is not to feed them anything larger than their head. You could feed as little as two times a week but that is not really advised, every other day is good and my experience is most geckos will until full. Though if you see yur gecko getting obese cut down on the feedings or amount fed. (had a leo that needed a diet). Every other feeding should be dusted with either a vitamin or calcium supplement. Again these are very general guidelines.

My only gripe with cresteds is that they don't regenrate their tail, if they lose it.

Wha substrate are you keeping it on, if your just keeping it on papertowel or repti-carpet, an overhead spot bulb would be best (red or a ceramic emitter would be best since they are nocturnal). An under tank heat usually needs an inch or two (or more) of substrate above it to keep the surface from being too hot and risk burning your leo. Also I don't know if it holds true for leos but some lizards are not as good sensing heat from their undersides as they are from their backs.

I used to have both but found the UTH redundant with a spot bulb.

i have my baby blizzard on a pad, it covers about 1/3 of the bottom of the tank when she gets warm she just scoots over to the cooler side.... the breeder said she gets her body heat through her tummy and that the heat pad was the way to go.

I got my little geckos today, they are so cute and won't get much bigger.

I always used a UTH with my leos and tile for floor covering.

about that terrarium

i do have one or two or more gecko species in mind but i need pros and cons data. i hear some of these animals might get expsive in the long run what with uvb requirments and all- how lights even if mounted correctly will be garbage after a little under/over a year-sometimes less then 4 months.
being economic and creative go hand in hand. being resourceful is important. you can build a humidifier with little more than plastic tubing, apple juice jug water airator pump thingy.
bottum line people money is an issue

I know that i can make myself and my pet happy without being robbed at the same time:drool: happyness without the cost yaaaaaaaaaaaa{D

i want a picture of each one to show u all i guess ill do that this weekend meantime anysuggestions

juggernaut said:
leaf tails are said to be the chamelions of geckos but there unhandleable as well as picky about how they like to live
I handled a U. fimbriatus, a U. lineatus, a U. sikorae, and two Uroplatus phantasticus' just last week. :D
So, they definitely can be handled in moderation. You just have to be careful as they have delicate skin (as do most geckos).
I plan on taking the U. fimbriatus home.
