It's been almost a month since my girl molted and her color is duller now then before she molted. The carapace (SP?) Is a brighter pink but her legs are basically black with the hairs being a very dull grey. Before molting she was a rose/light brown color. I thought the dark color after molting would change by two weeks but so far at almost a month she hasn't changed back to a colorful rosea. Could this be a sign of old age? I'm hoping not since she is my favorite and has such an interesting unique personality.

It's perfectly normal for a tarantula to change colors after a moult. If you are worried, maybe a picture can help, but in all honestly I think she is just changing color a bit.

It's been the opposite for my 7" MF G,Rosea, she was 6" when I got her over a year ago by now, she was mostly brown looking but after her molt shes a very colourful RFC, but i'm sure your Rosea is perfectly fine, but have to say they do gain black looking (exo/skin) underneath legs segments as adults, but hairs are brighter after molt, that's my experience with a alot of Rosea ive had and the one i've got now, but they have different forms that change overtime.

Wow 7 inches, I didn't know they could get that big. Mine is 4 1/2" to 4 3/4" best I could measure. I'll get pics as soon as I can. Right now she is playing with her ping pong ball in her cave.

I'm still waiting to get pics to post. Since I posted this thread Fritz has decided to hide for the last several days. Her hide is deep in the soil and I don't want to mess things up for a picture so I'll post when she decides to be sociable again. Unlike her to not come out when I'm up and about but our weather has changed quite a bit from 60's to low 90's, humidity is up, maybe she is just keeping cool in her hide. She's a Rosea so who knows what she is thinking.

Its quite normal even for a rosea to look a little brighter after molting or with slings they can change color completely. I about fell over when my T.gigas sling started to get its adult colors; went from a neon orange to a more muted orange with a green carapace and leg pairs 1 and 2 turned black in just two molts. So enjoy the new suit your T is sporting, it will dull down eventually.

Fritz finally came out of her hide yesterday but only for a few minutes then retreated back to her hide. I have only seen her a few times since she molted a month ago which is so unlike her. Before the molt she would come out of her hide when she heard me get up in the morning and hang out with me during the day. She would return to her hide when I would go to bed that evening. Repeat every day until she molted. I have posted a pic of her a few days after she molted that she has some color, not as bright as she was before molt when she was a light brown/pink shade. After molt she was a light gray with a tad bit of pink. A few days went by and I noticed she seemed to be getting darker from viewing her in her hide since she wouldn't come out. The second photo shows her as of yesterday...even more dark...almost a black. Makes me wonder if she has been hearing me talk about the black Pulchra I want..lol.

Something else I have noticed is her size has changed so much since the time I took the pic after molt to today. Before molt she was 4 -1/4" ...after molt she seemed to have grown to 4-3/4". After coming out of her hide yesterday and seeing her it was like Wow! Is this my Fritz? She is a lot bigger. I guess while she has been in her hide this past month she has been stretching her new suit out quite a bit. I haven't been able to measure her yet but she looks to be at least 5-1/2" to 6" now. A huge difference in size from what she was. She looked like she had lost a little weight during the month so I fed her two gut loaded crickets to get her abdomen rounded again. She had been eating a cricket a week but guess all this work with growing it wasn't enough. She is fine..not bad off or anything I just prefer her to be a little plump then slender. Very surprised at her size increase. I need to check and see if she has a picture of a G. Pulchra in her hide that she has been studying. She is my favorite, my baby, she knows it. Not to be taken too seriously, joking, she may be trying to tell me I don't need a Pulchra, that she can be one for me...lol.

Large pic is as of yesterday. The smaller pic was a few days after molt a month ago.

Is this normal for a rosea to turn this dark right after a molt? I looked for her be brighter colored. The small pic of her after molt she had some color and I thought she would brighten up more, not get darker colored as she is now in the larger picture.

All T's re-darken after a molt, they look bright for an amount of time that various by species. size and individual. My G.pulchripes was pink for about a week after molting but is back to its orangish-brown color again while my O.panay blue wasn't even blue for like a day after it molted (they are famous for being blue after they molt).

Thanks for replying. I thought they would hold color for a lot longer then a few days. It's also surprises me that she is not brown colored like before her molt but the new dark color is neat too. Just not what I was expecting. My younger 2-1/2" rosea molted few months back and she is still a bright red color.

She looks totally normal to me. She also looks to be the NCF, ie. Grammostola porteri, like mine, but colour can vary to each extreme for each species.
