It's a dark lump, like a wart on an old dog. The old molt won't budge (with one gentle stroke). I have to leave for a 24 hour shift :(

Good morning! Thank you for stopping by.

I had to leave for work, but I found someone to cover for me so I can go home early/tonight. 12 more hours

This was the best picture I could get of the portion that appears to be affixed...

Edit to add, I'm just noticing a white perfect ring around the lump. Someone please tell me that's not dried hemolymph and I'm not looking at a ruptured cyst.

Looks like it’s attached at the abdomen. Not a good spot. As @Marcostaco said, qtip or paintbrush with water. Gently brush at it to help it loosen. Don’t pull too hard as you don’t want to rip her fragile abdomen. It may take some time to loosen it. Be patient.

I was reluctant to rip off a potential bandage, I'm hoping I didn't do her in. It will be a while before I can get home :(

it looks like it is fine and doesn't obstruct anything vital and can probably fall off on its on

On the abdomen won't harm the spider. As long as book lungs and fangs are free, it's fine. I've had this happen and they fall off on their own

Unfortunately, I had the opposite experience, where it stuck and ripped. It does look like most of the molt is already detached though, which was not the case with mine. Keep us posted!

if possible i'd probably clip the carapace off, that way it is less likely to come off on its own, but at the same time there would be less of a chance to get entangled and ripped

too bad you have to go through that with her, such a nice looking spider

This is good to hear, Im sitting here at work trying to think through all the scenarios and was considering whether or not it would be a good backup plan. I've got extra sharp baby scissors that are perfect for the job.

There's nothing in her tank that she can get snagged on except for portion of exuvia she doffed and that seems unlikely.

Here are pictures from October, the day we picked her up. I can see that white ring...

That stupid rock was removed before the vehicle was put into drive

Its crazy, right. I wanted one for the nostalgic element as they used to be the household T back when the hobby was in its infancy. The OGT if you will. She will be irreplaceable, that's for sure.

Got the exuvia off. This looks terrible. Flash doesn't really do it justice.

It doesn't look great but how is she behaving? Is she acting as she normally would at this point? Fingers cross it moults out next time for you.

Are they pricey now? I'm sorry for the ignorance I don't keep much up to date with the market in the US x

There’s a decent chance it molts out fine next time. Which is probably years away anyway.

Thank you Smotzer ❤
No problem, happy to offer help!! Generally speaking the only times you need to bring in additional concern with some exuvium stuck on a recently molted tarantula are when it is either obstructing any portions of the two pairs of book lungs which are located on the ventral side of the opisthosoma, (abdomen) and or then when there's any obstruction of the spinnerets (butt fingers) or anus at the posterior (rear) end. Anywhere is in generally okay to leave to fall of naturally, especially if its already dried. Trying to remove it once its dry can cause a lot more issues.

Save for one weird wave movement she did with all of her legs, like a flutter. I hope it wasn't a failed attempt to run away. Mostly normal. Her personality seems the same, she walks right towards me and her movements are coordinated, she's just slow and weak. She tolerated the exuvia removal which should've scared her IMO.

I moved her enclosure to my bedside so I could check on her throughout the night, and caught a lot of healthy looking stretches. But I am worried about dehydration if there was some fluid loss here. The affected area feels crispy like some overdone Chinese crispy duck if you've ever had that.

This is very uplifting, Olan, you are right. I should have a lot more time with her before I have to worry about this again. Thank you.

Here is the exuvia.... PXL_20231214_152110351.jpg

The size of the dark portion missing matches the crispy portion on her back.

Hoping she ends up fine for you... It's possible you want to feed pretty sparingly/not let her get too fat in the long wait for that next molt? If there's a thinner or weakened spot in the new exoskeleton, it might be bad for it to stretch...

It looks unusual I don’t think it’s a cyst.
