I just got it as a sling (2 cm) a month ago and it recently molted, now about 3 cm ish. However, it's been a total of over two week since it last ate and it's a bit on the skinnier side. Is this normal behavior or should I be worried? Tried pre-killing the cricket and it still won't touch it.

This is my first T, any insight is greatly appreciated 💓

Welcome! It's normal for them to not eat for a while after a molt and to be a bit skinny after the molt. You say it's been more than two weeks since it last ate, but how long ago did it molt? Going without food for more than two weeks is nothing for these guys and should be no cause for alarm whatsoever, and they shouldn't be fed after a molt until they are fully hardened up. For a sling of that size, that could take a week or two. You can tell best by looking at the fangs. They should be fully black all the way from the tip to the chelicerae. If you still see white or reddish colouring on the fangs, don't try to feed yet.

Any pictures, just to see?

its winter. Congrats on the cold season molt!

its too soon to worry, even at that size.

i take back the cold season part hahaha. You are in warm country.

just sit back and enjoy whatever beverage you like. Look at your amazing tarantula in its fragile state. Take pictures.

it won’t stay like that forever.

Congrats on your new T! It will be okay, it's not abnormal for some Ts to go long periods of time without eating. It's also normal for skinny abdomens after molting. Just wait, and try again another time. Be sure that the fangs are completely black before feeding again after a molt.

I'm sorry, I did search through the forum but I'm an extreme overthinker so there's that T-T

Hello! It molted around a week ago, and I did check the color of the fangs before trying to feed it. I guess I'll try again in a couple days!

Hehe, yes I'm in a warm country, though it's currently raining heavily over here.

In that case, I don't think I need to worry. Here's how my T sling looks like! Taken two days ago.

I see, thank you lots!

Very lovely itty bitty tarantula. Just leave a piece of prekilled mealworm or cricket, or whatever it is you are using as feeders. Make sure food is smaller then tarantula. If prekilled prey is not eaten, remove it the next day and try again next week.

its not going to be in danger if it doesnt eat everyday. Its better to keep the abdomen a nice “normal” size, then have it to fat. Your tarantulas abdomen seems fine.

small g pulchripes slings dont need to be in a big enclosure either. Edit: dont listen to my math here: At 3cm, it could be in a 1-2inch square cube and that would be enough.

its 3x diagonal leg span. So you can work the math probably better then me on that one.

3cm=1.1inches

A 1-2 inch cube would be too small for a sling that size.

The container it's in looks fine from the picture provided.

That goes to show i dont know my metrics or number equivalent. I was imaging 0.5 cm for some reason.

When i got a 1/3 inch sling, it was in a 2 inch cube. I probably got mixed up with the 3cm. Dyslexia has a strange way of creeping up.
