My male is at about 6 1/2. He's a leggy fellow but he's not as bulky as my female. Any typical male can give you 6 months to 2 years of life after the mature molt. I don't think it's species specific.

One of my Pulchra males...

He's got a kind of brown tint to him recently... I think he's getting ready for a molt. Anyway... he's about 4.5" - 5" right now.

6 mos. to two years after final molt or 6 mos. to two years for their entire life?

Sorry, didn't even think before I replied. It would make sense when you think about it that a male pulchra wouldn't mature in 6 mos. and then die. So how long exactly is a males life expentancy (you have 6 mos. to two yrs after final molt....How long before that?)?

Depends on how much you feed him and how warm you keep him. That's a very wide window to put numbers on.

The reason I am asking is because I wanteed to know if you paid 100-150 for a male Pulchra that was 4-5" already how long he would live. For me the Pulchra would be a family pet and not for breeding. So with that said if he died a few years after I got him then it would not be worth it to me. But I do understand that putting a time frame on this is difficult. Thanks to everyone for trying to help!

First of all I would NEVER pay $100- 150 for a male pulchra... you can find them MUCH cheaper. The most I've ever paid for a male is $50.00 and the most for a female is $200.00.

Arantula from my home state...You got a good deal if you paid $50 for a 4-5" male G Pulchra or you got it at a good time. I don't see any floating around at that size for that price right now. If you live near A.C. maybe we can chat over who you get you T's from;)

G. pulchras are a pretty rare and in high demand spiders. It’s your guy so you can do as you wish but I would encourage you to breed him. Maybe you can get a female and try a hand at it yourself. If I’m not mistaken there was only one sack of this species in the US last year.

Grammys stay around for a while so I would say you have a couple good years with him after his ultimate molt.

A buddy that lives close by and is in to T’s is working on a “gathering” we don’t have time for a club but would like to meet T people. We will let you know as soon as something comes together once the weather gets warmer :)

Most male male G. pulchra I have had were around 5" diagonal legspan. They are extremely long-lived (for male tarantulas) IME. All mine have lived about 3 years (or more) after their maturing molts.

I think you might have paid $50 for a sling but not a 4-5" T

You couldn't have got it from someone who sells a lot of T's then:? You bought it from someone who needed extra money and not someone like reptist, ssw, ken the bug guy etc. If you did get it from a good T dealer, well then :worship:
