There was a couple (ahem maybe a few) bad apples that amounted to either morons or mean greedy fellas. But yes there will always be bad dealers in the pet trade, in this one or another.
Two words...Pat Kane :)

Oh, yeah...don't misunderstand my post. Always going to be bad mixed in amongst the good.

Ditto! That is a perfect example. I could probably add a couple names to that one but heck they are all gone under. No need to name names if they don't plan on returning. That's the great thing, a good dealer usually has longevity. Usually (wonders what happened to John Hoke? Anyone?). But I see what you are saying, nope, I haven't run up against any new scoundrels. Nothing like paying top dollar for a pet and getting something that looked like it co-habitated a minefield or got struck by a mysterious shrink ray or a mutant transformer.

The hobby is in the best shape today than I have ever seen it before. Especially the last time I participated.

About the freebies...

My thoughts on the freebies was that you usally got what was 'handy' or 'in great supply' at the time... It would make sense to me that you would get what ever there was the most of, or wasn't selling too quickly at the time. Or in some cases you got a special new arival as a freebie, as was the case when I bought my slings from Dean at NWInverts and he threw in a tiny A. chalchodes that he had pretty much 'just' gotten in hours earlier. Of couse I was pretty happy (more like spastic) that I had just gotten a free tarantula. It was something that I had never expected. I actually more or less thought it was some kind of advertizing gimic...

But yeah, if you ask nicely sometimes magic happens. It is worth a shot if it means a lot to you. :) Personally, I like the surprise... But, I am easy (when it comes to T's). :D
