Or if you prefer, Capina Grande Birdeating spder babies for $35!

I was rooting around and found some old price lists, I thought it might be of interest to some to see what was available and what the prices ran at one vendor a couple decades ago. Here are two of the lists, May of 1992 and November 1993, respectively. Never heard of the common name Capina grande Birdeater before.

Back then, tarantula taxonomy was in a state of confusion, and was of little interest to almost all arachnologists. Dealers would use whatever Latin they could find. Likewise, they would often make up their own common names for spiders they imported. Captive breeding was in it's infancy, and most slings were from females that came in gravid from the wild. Almost everything in the hobby was wild caught adults.

Good eye, Kelly!

I don't know if they still operate, but I seem to recall that they ran afoul of the law, maybe for Lacey violations...

Just think, in 10, 20 years we'll probably be looking back out our current price lists and thinking how outdated they are. XD

Tom Crutchfield is probably the one you're thinking of, who also used to be in Fort Myers. He and his wife did time for trying to sell a Fiji banded iguana.

Maybe. I remember some sort of scandal. Seemed to me it had something to do with snakes, but I could be completely mistaken. Was a while back.

The guys at Glades Herps were convicted in 2013 of violating the Lacey Act for trafficking in timber rattlers and illegally transporting Indigo snakes, leading to the business being closed.

What is it about Florida reptile dealers?

In the late 1990's/early 2000's, I used to trade spiders with Glades. Todd Gearhart worked there then and had built up a good assortment of species.

Pretty cool, I've been looking for some of my old mail order price list, but haven't found any. Thanks for sharing.

Later, Tom

Glad you got a kick out of it. I have some more old lists somewhere from other companies, but they may be reptile related only. I'll have a look and see.
