i am sorry....UV only as means of heatspot correct? i mean snakes are not lizards...snakes suposedly get all the vitamins from their prey ( thus variability in prey...)
i mean i had over 20 cobras...never ever did i read or heard to give vitamins to snake?
A cobra is completly different than a Thamnophis (garter snake).
Thamnophis eat fish and not other snakes like a cobra :). (or rats.mice etc).
They don't lay eggs but are give live birth like a boa. They also are not a constrictor or venomous like a cobra.
They are opisthogylphus but they realy have to 'chew' on your finger to deliver the poison and if you are not alergic you don't notice it. It's very mild.

A vitamin B deficiency quickly develops due to too much thiaminse in their food (not in all fish .. salmon fi is no problem)
So you have to add extra vitamins and therefore provide UV to process that.
So you need a separate heating source or a lamp that contains both.

Not all snakes are the same. I hope it's clear from my bad english as some words not sure in translation :D

This all reminds me of a great "when I was a kid story"... Camping with a bunch of families that camped together a few times each summer, the dads all gone fishing, moms "watching" the kids. I (one of the kids) and a few others were hiking by the stream when I found and caught a garter snake, which I brought back to camp. It started raining on the way, so wanting to protect the snake from the rain stuck it under my jacket. Just about the time we walked back into camp, the snake made it's way up under my jacket to my neck, which is where it bit me just as my mom walked up to see what we were up to. When my mom came to, she threw me in the car and drove me 90 miles to the emergency room, even though I was assuring her I was fine - and so did the ER docs. My dad wasn't real pleased with her decision to take me to the ER, but he was less pleased with me for sticking a snake under my shirt. He would have told me I was going to die and let me sweat it out for a while. It was a lesson learned for a lot of us that day... Ah, memories!
Oh yes, the camping or fishing stories involving snakes are priceless.

mom ripping me a new one was worse each time i came home with a new pet and needing a new tank for em:rofl:
Luckily my dad was supportive of my snake fascination. My mom on the other hand was completely different! Being an 80s kid in Mississippi, pet stores were basically non existent. So I basically found, caught, and kept whatever snakes I got my hands on. The good ol' days! Lol!!!!
