I picked up a small bag of substrate .It’s aged Douglas Fir with peat moss.I would usually get Reptilsoil, but they were out of smaller bags.

I know about no pine,or anything with sap or oils. But fir I’m not sure about.
Any opinions or bad issues using fir bark?.

Fir is coniferous which the sap is harmful to T's. As long as the bark is free from sap.

I myself would not risk it

I wonder about aged fir?.Not sure what that implies. It’s made by Zilla.JungleMix.

But, I would really like if someone actually used this for their spiders.I have not used it yet.
Thanks for your thoughts.

EDIT:
Never mind…did a search(@viper69 😜).
Says safe for geckos and toads/frogs.Not so sure now about spoods.Taking it back, getting my regular Reptilsoil.

I would think fir would be very acidic...so is peat though and that isnt a problem.

When I first started in the hobby though, jungle mix was all I used....I really liked it...I dont use it now just because its crazy expensive compared to dirt and peat.

it would depend on consistency and smell for me, in essence if its well composted and smells like any other compost you can buy i don't see why you shouldnt use it

that said i don't use organic substates as is, i alwazs mix them with at least 50% dirt

if on the other hand there is a distinct coniferous odor i would avoid the product as that would tell me its not finished gassing out/composted enough

how does it look, feel, smell...?
